Julianne watched from an extravagant balcony as something in the distance illuminated the sky. She felt utterly content as she sipped from her wine glass.
Mr. Ashford was an unfathomable and unpredictable mán. However, his generosity toward her was real. He had also taken her to heights she had never reached before and made her feel she could easily do anything.
She gazed out at the vast–sea in the distance. Now that I had been taken away, I could forget about ever escaping from that cage. This thought filled her with so much joy that she spun around in delight.
Who would have imagined Julianne’s life would take such an unexpected turn?
That was right, she wasn’t Lumi Calder–she was Julianne Sinclair!
When Julianne was facing a 10–year prison sentence, she had abandoned all hope and had even considered taking her own life in her detention cell.
She had thought her life was ruined. Not only did that not happen, but she had instead reached heights she could never have before!
She truly was something. Julianne couldn’t help wanting to thank me. She was so overjoyed that she almost started humming.
A cold voice suddenly rang out from behind her. “Someone’s happy.”
Julianne jumped in surprise. But then, she quickly plastered on a smile before turning to Mr. Ashford.
“Of course! I got to see a light show tonight!” she exclaimed
Mr. Ashford chuckled but didn’t say anything else. Walking onto the balcony, he leaned against the railing. Then, he lit a cigarette as he looked out at the distant sea. He appeared even more mysterious and enigmatic when shrouded in smoke.
Julianne gazed admiringly at Mr. Ashford’s stunning side profile. She couldn’t grasp how he felt toward her, but she knew she liked him even more than Irvin.
After meeting him, she finally understood why women loved bad boys.
Irvin was sincere, affectionate, and emotional. In contrast, Mr. Ashford was fickle, cold–hearted, and ruthless. He seemed composed on the outside, but in reality, he was reckless.
Mr. Ashford had once been part of a criminal organization. Thus, a wild and dangerous allure hid beneath his noble exterior. It made him especially captivating. One couldn’t help being drawn to him despite knowing he was like a poisonous poppy.
Julianne was about to speak when a maid entered, carrying a bottle of medicinal tonic on a tray.
“Ms. Calder, it’s time for your medication,” the maid said.
Julianne felt her head aching at the mention of this. It was the only woe in her otherwise joyful life.
Mr. Ashford chuckled when he noticed the frown and reluctance on her face.
“Come on, drink up. I’ll take you to the casino for a few rounds once you’re done,” he coaxed with a smile.
Julianne suddenly found the tonic wasn’t so hard to swallow when he smiled at her like that. Besides, her health

had been improving each day ever since she started drinking it. In fact, most of her old ailments were almost gone.
She took the bottle and slowly sipped from it.
