I didn’t know how to explain everything to Jeremy, and when I saw Henry helping Grandma out, I decided I didn’t want her to find out about the mess online.

So I just said, “I’ll handle it, okay? You don’t have to worry about it right now. Let’s just focus on celebrating Grandma’s birthday.”

Jeremy looked like he still wanted to say something, but when he saw Grandma coming, he swallowed his words.

Henry smiled when he saw me. “Emi, you’re back.”

It was strange.

Back when Julianne was still around, Henry adored her–he practically worshiped her. He even went out of his way to sabotage me just to get Mom to like Julianne more. And when Julianne “died“, he hated me so much that he looked ready to kill me.

But after finally accepting her death, it was like he turned into a different person. He wasn’t like Mom, still stuck in the past, hating me for Julianne. Instead, he seemed almost guilty.

Henry started acting like he wanted to make it up to me–always checking in and being overly kind. He never got upset, even when I ignored him and refused to call him “Dad“.

Grandma’s face lit up the second she saw me. She hurried over and grabbed my hand. “My sweetheart, you’re finally back!” To Grandma, I would always be the little girl she needed to protect and spoil. She only ever cared about me.

Even though nearly two–thirds of the people invited to her birthday party hadn’t shown up, Grandma didn’t notice anything wrong.

She just thought we were honoring her wishes not to throw a big party–only inviting close friends and family to keep it simple and cozy.

And the ones who did show up were either genuinely close to Grandma, close to me, or people who still needed the Quill family’s help.

Those who came knew better than to bring up the scandal. They were all smiles, happily celebrating Grandma’s birthday like nothing had happened.

So, despite everything, the party’s atmosphere was actually pretty good.

But even after the party had been going on for a while, Mom was still standing by the door like she was waiting for someone.

Just as Jeremy started to frown and was about to call her over, a woman appeared at the entrance, wearing a glittery gown.

I was talking to Grandma when I heard the name Lumi slip out of Mom’s mouth and instinctively turned to look.

My eyes darkened instantly after that one look.

Henry and Jeremy both froze the second they saw her.

Even though Julianne had gotten some work done to make herself look like Lumi, the resemblance had always been strong. But at the end of the day, she was still Julianne.

After living with her for so many years, Henry and Jeremy could tell something was off immediately.
