Chapter 382
Noah was of mixed heritage. His mother was a pure–blooded Falvarian, so naturally, his grandfather was too.
The moment I appeared on screen, Noali’s grandfather didn’t seem to want to waste too much time on me. He probably didn’t see any need to.
Cutting straight to the chase, he said, “Noal is the heir to the Hullnd the Ashford families. You’ve already been married once. And even if you hadn’t, someone like you could never be good enough for him.”
“I never thought of being with Noah,” I replied flatly.
Because of this, I felt there was no need for Noah’s grandfather torget me.
Noah’s grandfather scowled at my words. He might not want his grandson to marry a divorcée like me. However, he found it even harder to accept that I had no interest in his grandson.
“In that case, why are you still leading Noah on? Don’t claim you’re unaware of his feelings for you!” he snapped.
I was about to say I had never done so and had always plainly rejected Noah.
But Noah’s grandfather cut me off. “You couldn’t make Noah give up on his feelings for you. Yet, you’re indulging him by allowing him to stay close to you and treat you well. Not only that, you treat him well too. That’s leading him on!
“And since you never considered being with him, you should make him give up completely on you rather than allow him to continue hanging–around you! Then, he’ll be able to move on!”
What he said made sense. Since I had no intentions of reciprocating Noah’s romantic feelings, I should make him give up on me entirely. However, I had no idea how to do so.
Almost as if he could read my thoughts, Noah’s grandfather suggested, “Get married and have children. Once you do, Noah will naturally give up on you. After all, he never thought about looking for you when you were married before.”
Before I could say anything, he added, “I’ll give you one month. If you don’t get married and make Noah give up on you, I’ll destroy both of your companies. I’ll also make sure your employees never work again!
“So, if you don’t want to be the reason thousands of innocent lives are ruined, I hope you will do as I say!”
With that, Noah’s grandfather immediately ended the video call.
“Our employer is a man of his word, Ms. Quill. So, I hope you will take what he has said seriously and not drag innocent bystanders into this mess,” the butler–like man said.
Then, with a nod, he left the lounge he had brought me to, along with the black–clad bodyguards.
And just like that, I was left alone, staring at a dark, large screen.
Oddly enough, I didn’t feel the urge to fight against Noah’s grandfather’s threats and request. Instead, it felt like an escape route -one that would ensure I would no longer feel pained, conflicted, or sorrowful.
Even when given a final chance, Irvin had still chosen Julianne over me. Hence, I shouldn’t keep entangling myself with him. I should force myself to let him go and start a new chapter in my life which was to get married and have children.
This way, not only would I make Noah completely give up on me, but I would also make myself do the same to Irvin too. I could finally stop wavering.
And truthfully, I wanted to have a child.
My research wasn’t progressing, and my doctoral studies wouldn’t begin until next year. This meant I had a year’s worth of downtime, which was the perfect time to get remarried and have a child.
