Chapter 381
Julianne knew how terrible her fate would be once she was no longer of use to William.
So, despite her reluctance, she admitted, “I know. So, don’t worry. Even if I do speak of Emilia again, it won’t be in a bad way.” She sounded sincere, even though she would love nothing more than to destroy me. But to her, survival came first. She was living a good life right now and didn’t want to ruin it because of fe
Irvin could tell she truly understood, so he didn’t lecture her further.
He was about to go upstairs to look for me. But then, an important issue arose in Hardwell Group. He urgently needed to return to deal with it. So, Irvin could only text me and hoped I would forgive him.
In his text, he explained that he felt indebted to Diana for raising him. So, he could never bring himself to personally send her only daughter to her doom.
I didn’t even read his text, let alone reply. I didn’t want to be disappointed or hurt by him anymore. So, after he left, I focused on exchanging ideas and learning from the various professors.
Over the next seven days, I absorbed as much knowledge as I could. Finally, I decided which field I would like to further my studies in. I had also chosen which university I would apply to for my doctoral studies.
However, I would have to wait until next year to do so due to the application process. And by the time I had taken the entrance exams, the earliest I could enroll would be in September of next year.
After the academic exchange conference ended, I returned to Claudeville.
The second I touched down, I received a call from my professional executive. He asked if I had offended anyone recently because the companies had been suffering continuous setbacks. And if this continued, they might go bankrupt.
The news stunned me.
My first thought was Grace, but I quickly dismissed it. She didn’t hold much real power.
Besides, Irvin now had a good standing in the Hardwell family. Even if she did try to use the Hardwells‘ influence against me, Irvin would definitely know. And while he couldn’t be ruthless with Julianne, I knew he wouldn’t allow Grace to come after me.
As for Julianne, it seemed even less likely that she was behind this. She wasn’t capable of doing so.
However, I couldn’t think of anyone else if it wasn’t either of these women.
Just as I was wondering if I had offended someone I recently met, a man dressed in a butler’s uniform approached me. He was accompanied by a dozen black–clad bodyguards.
“Ms. Quill, our employer requests your presence,” the man said politely.
I frowned. “I don’t know your employer:”
By this, I was implying there was no reason for me to meet this person.
“Our employer is Noah’s maternal grandfather,” he clarified. “He just wishes to speak with you for a few minutes. It won’t take too much of your time.”
Before I could respond, he swiftly added, “If you don’t want your companies to collapse and for thousands of your employees to lose their jobs, we kindly ask you to follow us.”
I didn’t respond to him. Instead, I took out my phone and called William.
When he heard Noah’s grandfather wanted to see me, William was silent for a moment.
