Chapter 416
Luckily, Grace always prepared for the worst. Otherwise… Just thinking about how she had almost died that day made her involuntarily shudder.
There was no need for Grace to go to the hospital. So, when Agatha and her heard Irvin had returned to Hardwell Manor, they rushed back too.
Magnus had already been informed of what had happened before either party had arrived at Hardwell Manor. So, when he heard Irvin had returned home, he immediately left his office and headed home too.
He intended to have a talk with Irvin. However, upon arriving at Hardwell Manor, Irvin had locked himself in his room. And no matter how many times Magnus knocked, he neither responded ner opened the door.
Not wanting to damage the fragile relationship he had with his only living son, Magnus didn’t dare force his way in. He could only allow Irvin to shut himself away in his room.
The first thing Grace did when she got home was to find Magnus. Irvin had gone completely mad and had tried to kill her. While he had let her go at the very last second, she was terrified he would use another method to finish the deed. She wanted Magnus to guarantee her safety.
After learning what Grace had come for, Magnus patted her shoulder reassuringly.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you. You don’t need to be so afraid. Irvin only went that far because he couldn’t accept what had happened in that moment. But once he does, you’ll be fine,” he said.
Grace had described how unstable and dangerous Irvin had been. Despite this, Magnus still believed he had merely lashed out impulsively. He didn’t think Irvin would go so far as to throw away his entire future by actually killing Grace over something like
this.
Historically speaking, women were the ones who couldn’t bear to live after losing their chastity. There had never been a man who would self–destruct should something like this happen to him. No matter how much a man loved someone, he typically wouldn’t be affected should he cheat.
Every man Magnus knew had gone astray at some point, including himself. He considered himself to be quite disciplined, yet he too had slipped up on occasion.
It wasn’t a big deal for men to have extramarital affairs. And once happened, it usually expanded their horizons. It would also lead to repeated occurrences.
Grace had been terrified but began to relax under Magnus‘ reassurances. In her world, truly, none of the men she knew would lose their minds or self–sabotage over being unchaste.
“Irvin is just angry right now, so you should give him space over the next few days. Once he’s calmed down, try to find a way to talk to him gradually.
“You two are husband and wife. He’ll open his heart to you over time. And now that you’ve had your first time together, there will be a second. Eventually, you’ll both become a loving model couple,” Magnus advised.
He was a businessman through and through, driven entirely by returns. His only concern was to gain control of the Keller family through Grace.
Magnus had no real concern for her well–being. He had no problem selling her a pipe dream.
Of course, Grace knew the chances of her ever becoming a real loving couple with Irvin were next to zero. It wasn’t what she wanted from him anyway. Still, Magnus‘ words did ease her fear a little.
She began to believe that once Irvin had cooled off, they might still be able to be civil to each other long enough for her plan to come to fruition. However, that illusion completely shattered after Irvin emerged from his room.
He had locked himself inside for more than 24 hours. And while he had never answered the door nor touched a single meal brought to him, the household staff still did so dutifully.
