I watched Irvin and Grace walk toward me, arm in arm. At that moment, I didn’t know how to describe what I was feeling.

I wasn’t sure when I would finally be able to look at Irving see him as an ordinary friend, and not feel even the slightest ripple of emotion. But I believed I would be able to do so one day.

Compared to me, Irvin seemed to have changed a lot emotionally.

When we last saw each other at the banquet, he had beet teary–eyed as he asked me not to rush into liking someone new.

Now, he was here at my engagement party and showed no signs of the pain from then. Not only that, he was even able to smile at me as he handed me a gift and offered me his congratulations.

“Congratulations on your engagement, Ms. Quill and Mr. Ashford. I wish you a lifetime of happiness together,” Irvin said.

His eyes were full of sincerity as he offered me his wishes. As I stared into them, I couldn’t help but feel a little bittersweet.

I sighed inwardly at the reality of the situation. It didn’t matter how hard it was to let go or how impossible it had seemed. With time, people did learn to move on.

From being stuck, I had gradually been able to let Irvin go and start a new life. And he too had gone from not being able to let me go to now moving on and beginning anew.

Irvin and I hadn’t been able to uphold our wedding vows. We had promised each other that no matter what, we would always be together.

We had pledged to grow old together happily. And despite how things had turned out now, we were sort of doing so. Irvin and I might no longer be together, but we had found our own happiness.

That had to count, right?

Snapping out of my daze, I smiled at him. “Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Hardwell.”

My blissful smile and gracious thanks made Irvin’s hands ball into fists against his will at his side.

On the other hand, Grace’s gaze was filled with uncontrollable jealousy as she looked at me.
