Chapter 109 

I didn’t move while Brandon stood inside the elevator and said, “Come here. Let’s go up together.” 

I held the lollipop as he continued, “There’s some more testing that I want you to check on.” 

He also said the same thing just now, but he was just showing me some childish effects. 

I warned him, “Brandon, it’s working hours right now. Don’t mess around and lie to me. 

“Okay,” he replied obediently, but he still stood there, seemingly wouldn’t leave until I got on the elevator. 

could only walk toward him. When I was about to get on the elevator, he tried to hold my arm, but I dodged him. However, when I stepped inside, the stairs suddenly shook. I instinctively reached out and grabbed his arm by chance. 

The awkwardness made me blush, but he only looked around and muttered, “I have to get someone to check this thing. Why does it sway so easily?” 

I was speechless. This time, Brandon didn’t joke around with me. When we went up, he started testing while I inspected the effects and made adjustments. However, I received Chris‘ call not even half an hour after we started. I had a bad feeling when I saw his number. His call was definitely not going to be about work but about some complaint from Jewel. 

Still, he was my superior now. I couldn’t just ignore his call. Hence, I stood somewhere further on the elevator and answered the call, saying, “Mr. Gildon.” 

“Madeline, you are so cruel!” 

The first thing Chris did was to scold me. I didn’t need any further context because I already knew why he was berating me. Of course, his little darling complained to him. 

“Mr. Gildon, I believe there’s no issue with my arrangements. If anything, you’re the problematic one.” I paused, then continued, “You were the one who placed them here together, so I made arrangements that way.”

Chris was probably fuming. He didn’t speak for a while, so I took the chance to say, “I’m very busy. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.” 

“Immediately assign someone else to accompany Jewel! You will accompany her yourself,” Chris commanded. 

“Chris, did your brain get caught in the door? Is she so important that I have to accompany her myself? We need to test out the lighting in the amusement park right now. Shall we put that on hold?” I didn’t hold back, either. 

“I am ordering you to do this. You don’t need to care about anything else.” Chris was using his status to dictate me. 

My grip on the handle of the elevator tightened. “Chris, you can be a dictator and rage all you want, but I won’t follow along with your shenanigans.” 

“Then, I’ll strip you of your title as the person in charge of the amusement park with immediate effect. You’ll come back to work in the office.” 

Chris‘ decision surprised me. 

I was quiet for a while. “Chris, are you for real?” 

“Do you think I’m joking?” Chris scoffed. “Madeline, don’t think that the amusement park is going to fall apart without you.” 

Hearing this, I knew he wasn’t joking. Looking at the amusement park around 50 feet above ground, felt empty and sad at the same time. 

After Chris‘ betrayal, I was willing to swallow my pride and stay on this project just to complete it. It was also to fulfill my dream, but in the end, I couldn’t do it. 

This was probably the feeling of regret that people always talked about. It was just like how my parents loved me and wanted to watch me grow up and get married, but they passed away too soon. 

Since one couldn’t expect everything to go their way, I wouldn’t cling on either.
