Chapter 108
Rewarding me with a lollipop, did Brandon think I was a child?
I was about to call him childish, but he had already pushed the lollipop into my hands. He took some water for himself and even brought my cup over as well. He sat on a chair and patted the spot beside him. “Take a rest.”
Why did I need to rest? I didn’t even do anything except handle messy affairs. Nevertheless, since Brandon was sitting, I sat as well. Without him, I couldn’t do any work even if I wanted to. Suddenly, I felt as if he was somehow manipulating me.
“You were so fierce just now,” Brandon said.
I drank some water. “Was I?”
“Yes. It was scary.”
I tilted my head quizzically at him
He nodded and continued, “It’s true.”
For some reason, he looked very charming like this. I felt odd that I was feeling this way for this handsome, uptight soldier boy, so I asked, “Brandon, how old are you?”
I was teasing him for being childish, but he replied seriously, “I told you before.”
I was confused.
Before I could reply, he continued, “When we were on a blind date.”
I was speechless.
He didn’t wait for me to recall my memories, answering, “I’m 31 years old.”
Although I got my answer, I didn’t feel like talking anymore. Our thoughts. weren’t even on the same wavelength.
I continued to drink my water as he said, “Mrs. Rhodes called me. She heard we were working together, so she wanted me to bring you back home when I finished work.”
This was the first time Brandon brought up Kelly since he came here.
It was unusual for him to mention her. I didn’t ask about her because my core memory of Kelly was of her setting us up. If either of us mentioned it, we would feel awkward.
Now that Brandon mentioned her, I couldn’t just ignore him.
I laughed awkwardly and said, “Didn’t you tell her you would be staying here. more often?”
“I’ll see how it goes.”
His reply made me turn to look at him.
However, he didn’t look at me. He tipped his head back to drink his water. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed, and I followed suit, swallowing my saliva. Then, I looked away in embarrassment.
“I don’t necessarily have to visit her with you,” I muttered.
“Why not?”
So, he had good hearing.
“I like to do things alone.” I looked at Brandon again. “I enjoy my own company.”
I said this on purpose because I had no intention to develop our relationship further. Hence, I needed to be clear about my intentions and draw boundaries with him. After all, I had plenty of unintentional close contact with him–like when we were on the elevator previously.
Thinking of this, I looked back at the elevator. “Why did the elevator start swaying all of a sudden?”
“What?” He looked confused.
