Brandon’s tone was quite polite, but it sounded like an order from a superior to me, but I knew he wasn’t calling me for work–related matters. 

Just yesterday he had questioned me about the flowers that a young guy sent, and now he had personally witnessed something again. Was he going to interrogate me further? 

At that moment, I realized that having a boyfriend was like looking for trouble for myself. If I hadn’t been involved with Brandon, I could have just brushed off Yerrick’s pursuit without any further complications.

As I was looking around, I heard the door close behind me. My chest tightened slightly, and I turned to greet him formally. 

“Mr. Howell.” 

Earlier, before entering his office, I noticed the plaque on the door–Chief Engineer. That title certainly matched his hefty salary. 

Brandon looked at me and asked, “Did you have breakfast?” 

His gaze was intense, and every time I made eye contact with him, my heart would race uncontrollably After what happened last night, I felt even more self–conscious facing him directly. 

I wandered over to his equipment, examining it as I replied, “I did.” 

“Didn’t I tell you to rest today? Why did you come to work?” Brandon’s question made me freeze.
