Chapter 274 

I didn’t join Xander for lunch as I already had an appointment with Lisa. 

She said Keith had come to their hospital as a visiting professor and that she had already spoken to him. She wanted me to meet him to discuss the details of Ellie’s treatment. 

“I’ll bring Brandon with me,” I said. After all, it was about his sister, so it would be best if he heard everything firsthand. Plus, he should be the one to decide whether or not to go ahead with the surgery. Lisa hesitated for a moment, and I sensed that something was off. “What’s wrong? Is it inconvenient?” 

“You should come alone. Besides, time is short. We’ll only have a short break to quickly discuss the situation,” she explained. 

So, I went to the hospital alone with Ellie’s medical records. Lisa was waiting for me, and after glancing at the records, she led me to the lecture hall. 

On the way, she explained, “Keith is very busy. After his lecture, he has other commitments, so you might only have four or five minutes to talk.” 

I couldn’t believe it. “That busy? Like the president?” 

Lisa chuckled at my joke and teased back, “Pretty much. He’s an internationally renowned professor now. The fact that he’s here at our hospital might be our luck, or maybe one of the directors offered him something.” 

I glanced at her, sensing the hint of sadness in her tone. Lisa was a well–accomplished doctor as well, but her achievements seemed insignificant in the eyes of Keith, whom she admired. 

This might be the reason for her crush all these years. Love was about being well–matched, and being seen as equals. 

“Have you met him privately?” I asked, still curious. 

“No. He’s too busy. Besides, if I had, I wouldn’t be calling you to meet him now,” Lisa said while nudging me. “I told you, he’s a big–shot professor with an assistant who manages his time.” 

I got the message. It wasn’t because she didn’t want to, but she didn’t have the chance. 

“You have his personal contact, right? Why not give it a try?” I encouraged her. 

When Lisa and I entered, the lecture hall was packed with people. There was a young and handsome man wearing rimless glasses giving a lecture on stage. That had to be Keith. 

His words were clear and concise, and his voice was very pleasant, rivaling even that of TV news anchors. The white lab coat he wore reflected the bright light in the room, making him look like a god who had descended to earth 

The lecture hall was so full that people were standing along the aisles. Since Lisa and I arrived late, there were no seats left. We could only stand at the back and listen.
