Love's Redemption (Chris and Maddie) novel Chapter 394

"Mr. Gildon, there isn't enough time!" A flight attendant on the plane reminded us.

I knew private planes had designated flight routes and must take off and land at scheduled times. It would cause a delay if I made a call now.

"Never mind," I said as I sat down.

"One minute," Chris told the flight attendant. With that, he handed his phone to me.

I was a little surprised that he would allow me to make this call. Logically, he had every reason to refuse under the pretense of time constraints.

I looked at him, confused. I had to admit that since his return after his disappearance, he seemed different from before.

Chris didn't offer any explanation under my puzzled gaze. Instead, he turned to look out the window.

"Let's take off," I said, handing the phone back to the flight attendant.

Chris looked at me in surprise, while the flight attendant glanced at him to seek his approval. He was the owner of the private plane, after all.

After a few seconds, Chris withdrew his gaze and coldly said, "Take off."

The flight attendant relayed Chris' decision via walkie-talkie, and the plane slowly began to take off.

It was then Chris' phone rang. He glanced at the number and looked at me.

I knew it was probably Brandon, who discovered I was missing after coming out of the shower. He must have traced it down to Chris, but the plane was already in motion, and I couldn't take the call.

I took his phone and saw that it was indeed Brandon's number, but I ended the call and switched the phone to airplane mode.

As the plane ascended, the flight attendant brought me a blanket and asked if I wanted anything to drink.

I hugged and comforted her. Meanwhile, Conrad and Chris moved to the side to talk in private.

Once Bree had calmed down a bit, I asked her the question I hadn't had the chance to ask Chris. "Why did Zack suddenly become so ill?"

Although his lung cancer couldn't heal and would only deteriorate, Zack's condition shouldn't have worsened this quickly without triggers from external factors.

Bree shook her head. "I don't know either. He's been fine these past few days. After dinner tonight, he said he felt tightness in his chest, so I gave him a massage but it didn't help.

"I sensed something wrong and sent Stewart to take him to the hospital. Zack said it was too late, all the doctors had gone home, and that he would go in the morning.

"But he coughed up blood not long after. I called Conrad, but Zack kept vomiting blood before he could pick up the phone…"

Conrad had told me that Zack shouldn't get upset or agitated. I couldn't help but ask, "Zack didn't get mad, did he?"
