Chapter 55 

Bree’s hand trembled as she held mine. She then scolded, “That bastard! I’ll call him right now and ask what exactly he’s trying to do. Didn’t he say there was nothing between him and that Massey woman?” 

She finally let go of my hand and reached for her phone. I moved my hand, which had gone numb from her grip. I then said, “Bree, I’ve already talked to him at the company. He’s agreed to break up. And…” 

I paused and then continued, “He’s also accepted Jewel to work at the company.” No matter how I said it, today’s words sounded like complaints. Since it was like that, I decided to be forthright and tell them everything Christ 

had done. 

“What?” Bree and Zack were stunned. 

Zack’s face darkened, and Bree questioned him, “Didn’t you say you had control over everything at the company? How did you not know about this?” 

It was just as I had thought. Zack sat at home, fully aware of the company’s affairs. But the comings and goings of an individual at the company weren’t something that he, as the chairman, would monitor closely. 

Zack didn’t respond. His eyes showed evident anger. Seeing this, Bree said, Call Chris back and ask him what’s going on.” 

I stopped them. Chris coming back would only make things messier. 

“Bree, Zack, if you find this unacceptable, imagine how I feel. He had a scandal with Jewel and yet, he brought her to the company. He didn’t care about me as 

his fiancée. 

“Maddie, we’ll make him get rid of that woman.” Bree grabbed my hand again. 

“Bree, he blocked all contact with Jewel in front of me. It was the day before. we were supposed to register for our marriage. But that didn’t stop him from accompanying her to a prenatal check–up the next day. 

“So, getting rid of Jewel doesn’t solve the problem…” I said, pressing my lips together. 

“The real issue is that Chris cares about her. For her, he can lie and disregard

My words left Bree and Zack speechless. I continued to speak my mind. “Zack, Bree, things between Chris and me have come to this. Even if you force him to be with me, his heart isn’t here. 

A loveless marriage would only bring me pain. If you truly care for me, you wouldn’t want me to suffer in such a relationship, right?”
