Chapter 56 

Conrad had returned. I was completely taken aback, just like when he had remembered my dad’s old phone number 

Bree and Zack were equally surprised. They stared at Conrad for a long time without saying a word. 

Conrad had been away for four years and hadn’t returned even once during that time. His sudden return was both a surprise and a delight for them. 

what’s the matter? Are you not happy to see me?” Conrad walked over, smiling 

as he asked. 

Conrad’s personality was always warm and comforting. He truly embodied the role of an older brother. During the years I spent at Gildon estate before he left, he made me feel most at home. 

However, he was the type to show his care through actions rather than words. It was different from Chris, whose kindness was obvious to everyone. 

“Conrad,” I called out to him. 

At this moment, Bree and Zack also came to their senses. Bree let go of my hand and walked over to Conrad, lightly hitting him twice. “So you do remember you have parents and need to come back.” 

Zack chimed in as well. “Why didn’t you give us a heads–up?” 

Conrad glanced at me and smiled faintly. “I wanted to surprise you.” 

Tears welled up in Bree’s eyes as Conrad reached out to hug her. “Mom.” 

That one word made Bree hit him a couple more times before she hugged him. tightly, muttering, “You haven’t come back for so long. Your father and I thought we had wronged you. We thought you were holding a grudge.” 

“What are you talking about, Mom? I was just too busy abroad,” Conrad said, but his eyes were on me as he spoke. 

His gaze was direct and intense, and my heart skipped a beat. Could it be that he came back because of me? 

Conrad’s arrival put an end to the discussion about me and Chris. However,

since everything had been said, Zack seemed to have accepted it. Bree was still struggling. But with Conrad and Zack’s persuasion, she’d come around eventually. 

Conrad said he hadn’t eaten and wanted to have his parents‘ cooking again. Bree and Zack immediately went to the kitchen to prepare food. They asked me to join them for food as well. 

Conrad and I were left alone in the living room. There was an awkward silence since everything had already been said over the phone. 

Conrad broke the silence first. “I thought you wouldn’t come here anymore.” 

“What are you talking about? This is my home. I can come here whenever I want,” I said. But then I remembered I had another task–to pack my belongings. 

Seeing the busy figures in the kitchen, I knew this was a good time to pack my things and put them in the car. This way, when I left, Bree and Zack wouldn’t see my luggage and feel sad or try to hold me back. 

“I’ll help you take your luggage upstairs,” said, getting up to grab his suitcase.
