Chapter 70 

I wasn’t surprised that he had added me. 

We were now co–workers and would have to communicate often over plenty of things, so adding each other on WhatsApp would be very convenient. 

However, I didn’t add his contact immediately. Instead, I replied to Lisa’s message, but she didn’t reply to me. She was probably busy again. 

I tapped on Conrad’s notification and thought about it for a moment before replying, “I’ve been busy with the amusement park lately. I’ll go show you around once I’m done.” 

I followed up with one single word, “Sorry” 

Conrad replied almost instantly, “No worries. You need to take care of yourself no matter how busy you are, okay?” 

Before I could reply, he sent another text. “I’ll be waiting for you.” 

I was about to reply “Okay“, but it didn’t seem appropriate with his latest message. So, I instead replied with, “Are you going to be staying for a while?” 

Conrad replied, “Yes. I won’t be leaving for quite a bit.” 

I was quite surprised by his answer. A few seconds later, I asked, “Bree and Zack must be glad.” 

It showed that Conrad was still typing, but his reply never came even after I waited for a few minutes. 

Instead of blindly waiting, I went to my email so that I could sort through them and reply to the new ones. 

It had become a habit to check, but I seemed to have already settled everything Ineeded to. There were no new emails in my inbox. 

Seeing the lack of the little red dot next to my inbox made me feel empty inside for some reason. 

Kara suddenly approached me and showed me her phone screen. “Maddie, have you caught up with this TV series? I’ve been watching it so far. It’s the male and female leads‘ second show together, and it’s actually really nice!”

I glanced at her screen. I liked both the lead actor and actress, and the clip that was playing on screen was pretty funny. The female lead had turned into a chicken and was currently wildly pecking at the male lead, who was teasing 

her. 

Thus, I put my phone down and started to watch the show with Kara. However, my interest in the show eventually lost to my sleepiness. 

When I opened my eyes again, it was already dawn the next day. 

Due to my biological clock, it was only 5:00 am when I woke up. As for Kara, she was sleeping like a log. Her nightgown had ridden up all the way to her thigh, exposing her underwear. 

I pulled the blanket over her and picked up my phone. I saw a number of new 

messages. 

Lisa had replied to me and so had Conrad. His message read, “What about you? 

I looked back at our chat after seeing his response. Only then did I understand that he was asking if I was glad about him staying. 

What did that have to do with me? Whether he stayed or left had nothing to do with me. Why was he asking me that? 

We were both adults, so I could clearly sense that something was slightly off and didn’t reply. 

I put my phone down and washed up before pouring myself a glass of water and sipping it by the window. I noticed that a slight fog had risen outside. 

It was very light. In fact, I could still see the scenery outside almost perfectly.
