Chapter 31
Maverick opened his eyes and glanced at Tina, who was crying softly, wiping away her tears. Most people would probably feel sorry for her, but Maverick just felt annoyed
Just then, he noticed a hint of peacock blue outside the door. A slight smile tugged at his lips. “Ms. Hacker, my wife’s standing outside. Don’t think it’s time to make some room?”
Outside, Aurora forced an awkward smile. Since she’d been spotted, she decided to walk in confidently.
She reached over to zip up Tina’s dress and handed her a tissue. “Ms. Hacker, I don’t know what history you two have, but that’s over. “Now, I’m Maverick’s wife, his legal partner, and I hope you can respect that. I wouldn’t expect the daughter of the Hacker family to cling to someone else’s husband. The past is the past; it’s water under the bridge.
Standing close to Maverick, Aurora made it clear where she belonged
She had already married Maverick and was the lady of the house; she wouldn’t stand by while anyone else tried to undermine that.
She hadn’t known about Tina before, and she hadn’t expected a lingering “childhood sweetheart to still be around.

Embarrassed at being caught trying to cozy up to Maverick, Tina lowered her head, and her face flushed, but she didn’t back down. “I get what you’re saying. But I’m not clinging to him. Besides, you were kidnapped for a day–am I wrong to be worried about that?”
Aurora chuckled softly. “Ms. Hacker, in what capacity are you saying that? You’re a guest, and yet here you are, barging into our bedroom uninvited and then throwing accusations around, huh?”
Tina’s face shifted, and she looked to Maverick, hoping he’d defend her, but he stayed silent.
She pouted even more. “Maverick, are you really going to let her speak to me like this? We re friends, after all, but listen to hert Is this how Mrs. Parker should behave!”
Aurora kept her cool “So you know I am Mrs. Parker. Now, please leave. I’d rather not see you here again.”
Tina paled, looking as if she might lose her balance. She opened her mouth to say something but couldn’t find the words.
Just then, Ruth came
came upstairs to call them for dinner. Hearing the tension in the room, she stepped in. “What’s going on here? Why is everyone up here: Dinner’s ready.”
Tina, seeing a chance, clung to Ruth’s arm and complained, “Ruth, I just came to talk to Maverick, and then Aurora barged in, accusing me of trying to seduce him. How is that fair!”
Ruth, who had always been fond of Tina, softened as she looked at Tina’s hurt expression. “Aurora and Maverick just got married. Please be a little more understanding. If nothing’s really going on, let’s go down to dinner. The food’s ready.”
Aurora was fuming at the implication that she was being unreasonable. “Ms. Hacker, you say you just came to talk, yet when I walked in, you were practically undressed. What kind of conversation requires you to take your clothes off?”
Ruth’s eyes narrowed as she glanced at the zipper on Tina’s dress. Aurora had only pulled it up earlier but hadn’t fastened it. Ruth wasn’t naive; she saw through the situation immediately, and Tina’s flustered reaction only made things
s clearer.
Before Tina could respond, Ruth sighed, “Let’s just put all this behind us. Come down for dinner before everything gets cold.” Aurora cut in. “Ruth, I hope you don’t hold anything against me. I went through a lot with the kidnapping, but I know exactly what did or didn’t happen. I’m Maverick’s wife now. We’re family.”
as well”
She then glanced at Tina. “I don’t want to see anyone pulling stunts like this again. It doesn’t just make yo
you look bad, it disrespects Maverick as Aurora thought Tina was being foolish. Maverick had already made his feelings clear, yet she kept holding on to the past. Whatever they’d shared was over; he was guarried now, and that was that,
Aurora’s words seemed to hit home. Ruth’s face darkened, and she turned to Tina with a sigh. “Alright, let’s put this to rest. Whatever you had with Maverick is in the past. He’s married now, and you’ve met his wife. Let’s leave it at that and avoid any more scenes like this”
Ting, raised with good marmers, felt utterly humiliated by Ruth’s words. Her face flushed as she mumbled an apology, then hurried downstairs. She didn’t even stay for dinner, grabbing her things and leaving Parker Manor in a huff.
Despite being the one at fault, she left fuming, leaving everyone else a line stunned.
Ruth watched her go and turned, looking suddenly tired. “You two should come down soon. Don’t let the food get cold. And Aurora, don’t take it to

heart. She probably just wasn’t thinking”
Aurora nodded, signaling that she wasn’t bothered, and watched Ruth head downstairs.
Oner Ruthi was out of sight, Aurora glanced at Maverick and turned to leave as well. She didrit feel like staying at Parker Marior any longer. This was her first visit, and it had already turned into a mess. Naturally, she didn’t feel great about it.
She couldn’t help but think about that carpet Tina had given Ruth. Ruth kept praising the gift, making it clear how much she loved and appreciated. it, but she didn’t seem to care about me at all. And when Tina was going after me earlier. Maverick didn’t step in
