Chapter 219
Dain leaned against the cabin wall, his orange eyes catching the faint glow of the moonlight streaming through the window. Elyra sat cross-legged on the floor, tracing invisible patterns in the dust with her finger. The air between them was heavy with unspoken thoughts.
“No one can ever know,” Dain said at last, breaking the silence. His voice was firm, resolute.
Elyra looked up, her golden eyes narrowing. “I know that, Dain. Do you think I want people to see us as more of freaks than they already do?”
Dain sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s not just about what they think. If anyone finds out what we can do…” He trailed off, the thought too unsettling to finish.
Elyra nodded, her expression softening. “We don’t even understand it ourselves.”
They sat in silence for a moment longer before Elyra spoke again. “We need to figure it out—whatever this is.”
Dain raised an eyebrow. “How do you propose we do that?”
Elyra’s gaze grew determined. “We train. We push ourselves. We see what we’re capable of.”

Their makeshift training sessions began the next day, far from Matthew’s watchful eyes. Elyra led Dain to a secluded clearing deep in the forest, where the towering trees shielded them from view.
Elyra started small, focusing on the strange bursts of energy she sometimes felt in her chest. She closed her eyes, her silver hair catching the light as she concentrated. A faint glow began to surround her, pulsing in time with her heartbeat.
“Whoa,” Dain muttered, taking a step back.
