Chapter 31
The tension in Cassian’s pack had reached a breaking point. Patrols were on constant alert, and every howl from the forest sent shivers through the wolves guarding the borders. Aurora felt the strain deeply, each passing hour feeding her unease.
She busied herself in the kitchens, helping prepare meals for the wolves coming off their shifts. The rhythmic tasks kept her hands moving, but her mind raced. She couldn’t stop imagining Fenrir’s arrival—what he might say, what he might do.
Cassian entered the kitchen just as she was finishing a batch of bread, his presence commanding the room’s attention. Aurora straightened, wiping her hands on her apron.
“Aurora,” he said, his tone soft but purposeful. “Can we talk?”
She nodded, following him outside. The air was cool, and the moon cast a pale glow over the pack grounds. Cassian led her to a quiet spot near the edge of the central square, away from prying eyes and ears.
“I need to ask you something,” he said, turning to face her.
Aurora’s stomach twisted. “What is it?”
He hesitated for a moment, his dark eyes searching hers. “Are you carrying Fenrir’s child?”
The question hit her like a blow, and she took a step back, her heart racing. “Why… why would you think that?”
