The predawn light filtered through the forest, casting long shadows over the dense underbrush. Fenrir crouched near a rocky outcrop, his trackers fanned out behind him. The tension in the air was palpable, every wolf in his group poised for action.
Nathan approached, his steps careful, his expression unreadable. “The scouts report heavy patrols along Cassian’s borders,” he said quietly. “They’re prepared for us.”
Fenrir’s lips curled into a grim smile. “Of course, they are. Cassian’s no fool.”
Nathan hesitated. “We’re outnumbered, Alpha. His pack won’t hesitate to defend their territory.”
“I didn’t come here to fight his pack,” Fenrir growled. “I came for Aurora. And I’ll get her back.”
Nathan’s eyes flickered with doubt, but he nodded. “We’ll follow your lead.”
Fenrir turned back toward the forest, his gaze fixed on the faint glimmers of light marking Cassian’s central grounds. “Stay sharp. We move when the sun rises.”
In the pack’s central grounds, Cassian stood near the perimeter, his arms crossed as he surveyed the defenses. Wolves patrolled the borders in pairs, their sharp eyes scanning the forest for any sign of movement.
