Elyra stood at the edge of the forest, the wind carrying the ominous howls of shadow wolves echoing in the distance. She tightened her grip on her sword, her heart pounding in her chest. Behind her, Fenrir and Cassian waited, their expressions grim as they prepared for a confrontation they all knew was inevitable.

“You don’t have to do this alone,” Fenrir said, stepping closer. His voice was low but steady, laced with concern. “Let us fight with you.”

Elyra shook her head, her gaze fixed on the dark horizon. “No. This is between me and Dain. If anyone else gets involved, it’ll only escalate things.”

Cassian frowned, his amber eyes blazing with frustration. “He’s not going to listen, Elyra. You’re risking everything for someone who’s already made his choice.”

“I have to try,” she replied firmly, turning to face them both. “Stay here. If things go wrong, you’ll need to protect the others.”

Before either could argue further, she stepped forward, leaving them behind as the forest grew darker with each step. The air was thick with tension, the scent of shadow magic clinging to her senses like smoke. She didn’t have to wait long before Dain emerged from the gloom, his shadow wolves flanking him like silent sentinels. His once-bright eyes now gleamed with an unnatural darkness, and the shard at his side pulsed with malevolent energy.

“Elyra,” he greeted coldly, his voice devoid of the warmth she once knew. “You shouldn’t have come.”

She took a deep breath, steeling herself. “Neither should you. Dain, this isn’t you. You don’t have to do this.”

He chuckled darkly, shaking his head. “You’re wrong. This is exactly who I am. You just never wanted to see it.”

Her heart twisted at his words, but she refused to give up. “No, it’s not. You’ve been blinded by the shard, manipulated by the Warden. I know the brother I grew up with is still in there.”

Dain’s expression faltered for a moment, his gaze softening as if her words had reached him. But just as quickly, his face hardened again, and he took a step closer. “You don’t understand, Elyra. I’ve seen what we can become—what I can become. The packs don’t need a Luna Ascendant. They need a leader who won’t hesitate, who won’t be bound by ancient laws.”
