Chapter 60
Aurora awoke the next morning to the sound of raised voices outside her cabin. She hurriedly dressed, her heart pounding as she stepped into the crisp morning air. Wolves were gathered near the central grounds, their expressions tense. Cassian stood at the center, his stance commanding as he addressed the crowd.
“What’s going on?” Aurora asked Iris, who was standing nearby.
“Magnus’s scouts,” Iris replied grimly. “They found something near the northern perimeter.”
Aurora’s chest tightened as she turned her attention to Cassian. His voice carried over the gathered wolves, steady but sharp.
“We’ve confirmed that Magnus is using Lycans as part of his advance,” Cassian said. “Their numbers are still small, but they’re testing our borders more aggressively.”
“What are we going to do, Alpha?” a young wolf called out.
Cassian’s gaze swept over the crowd, his expression unwavering. “We fortify our defenses and prepare for their next move. This pack is strong, and together, we will stand against whatever Magnus throws at us.”
The wolves murmured their agreement, though unease lingered in their eyes.
Later, as the wolves dispersed to their tasks, Cassian found Aurora near the healer’s quarters.
“Are you all right?” he asked, his voice soft.
Aurora nodded, though her hands were trembling. “I just—this feels so much bigger than anything I’ve ever faced.”
Cassian stepped closer, his presence steadying. “It is. But you don’t have to face it alone.”
Aurora’s throat tightened, but she nodded, drawing strength from his words.
That afternoon, a group of scouts returned from the northern perimeter, their expressions grim. Nathan met them near the central grounds, his stance tense as he listened to their report.
“They’re moving supplies through the mountain pass,” one of the scouts said. “Weapons, armor… things I’ve never seen before.”
