Married At First Sight Chapter 3988
Chapter 3988

By the next day, Sonny’s fever had completely subsided. That morning, Serenity and Zachary brought him to kindergarten together.
“Don’t worry, I’ll pick Sonny up this afternoon,” Duncan had assured them earlier.
At the entrance of the kindergarten, Sonny waved goodbye to Serenity, his small hand lingering mid-air as if reluctant to part. Then, with a determined little nod, he turned and walked in on his own.
Watching him go, Serenity smiled softly. “Remember how we used to have to walk him inside every morning? Now he’s brave enough to go in by himself. He’s grown so much.”
“He really has,” Zachary agreed, taking her hand in his. “Come on, let’s head to your prenatal check-up.”
Zachary had cleared his morning schedule to accompany Serenity, prioritizing her health over work.
As they turned to leave, they crossed paths with Carrie, who was holding the hand of a small girl. Carrie leaned down, speaking to the child, but the girl seemed uninterested, avoiding her gaze.
When Carrie noticed Zachary and Serenity, she stopped in her tracks, a polite smile forming on her lips. “Mr. York, Mrs. York, it’s nice to see you both dropping Sonny off.” Her gaze lingered on Zachary briefly before shifting to Serenity.
Serenity, now well into her pregnancy at around 28 or 29 weeks, smiled back. Her best friend Jasmine, who was a month further along at 32 weeks, had been venting about the struggles of pregnancy. Josh had forbidden Jasmine from working at her bookstore, insisting she stay home to rest, but Jasmine found the idea unbearable. She had compromised, agreeing to step away from work in a month, much to Josh’s frustration.
Zachary, too, was growing increasingly anxious about Serenity’s well-being. He couldn’t stand seeing her toss and turn at night, struggling to find a comfortable position to sleep. It broke his heart.
The weight of impending fatherhood hadn’t escaped him. Zachary made a silent vow to himself: he would cherish Serenity forever. She was carrying their child, a sacrifice she was making out of love for him. She deserved nothing but his unwavering devotion.
“Mrs. Labbe,” Serenity greeted with a polite nod, breaking Zachary’s reverie.
Carrie returned the smile, but Serenity’s thoughts drifted elsewhere. She had come to realize something about this woman. Behind Carrie was Mr. Labbe, and his intentions had finally become clear.
When Grandpa Silver Fox and Ezequiel had visited Wiltspoon not long ago, they’d brought along Alijah, one of Silver Fox’s favorite disciples. Zachary had mentioned it in passing, but Serenity now understood the deeper layers of the situation. Carrie’s approach wasn’t about revenge, as Serenity and Camryn had originally suspected. Instead, Carrie had been trying to build trust, insinuating herself into Serenity’s circle of friends to gain access to Jane, Sonny, and, ultimately, Titus.
Titus was the real target.
Serenity recalled Titus’s tragic story. His family had been killed years ago, and only he had survived, saved by his nanny’s quick thinking. She had fled thousands of miles with him to Meadspring, where Jane eventually found and rescued him. Since then, Titus’s enemies had been hunting him, desperate to locate him.
They had suspected Titus might be at FC Manor and even stationed people nearby to monitor the estate. However, when Titus was moved to stay with the miracle doctor, Ben had confronted and dealt with those who had been sent by Mr. Labbe. For now, Titus’s location remained secure, but the danger hadn’t passed.
It was clear Mr. Labbe had his suspicions about Titus’s identity but hadn’t yet confirmed that Titus was the son of the previous head of the Labbe family. Whether Mr. Labbe’s motives were to eliminate Titus as a threat or something else entirely, Serenity knew they couldn’t allow him to get any closer.
The stakes were too high.
With the support of several senior figures and the formidable protection of the Five Emperors Hall, Serenity felt confident in Titus’s safety. However, revenge for Titus’s family wasn’t something they could rush. That responsibility would fall to Titus himself once he grew older. For now, their priority was to shield him from harm and prevent his enemies from discovering his whereabouts.
As Serenity and Zachary walked away, hand in hand, Serenity’s resolve hardened. No matter what, she would do everything in her power to protect the boy who had already endured so much.
