Chapter 161 An Important Clue
Chapter 161 An Important Clue
“Le-Leila didn’t die?”
Cecelia was shocked to hear Nick say this.
“Mr. Miller, are you telling the truth? My mother is still alive?” If this was true, then the incident of her mother’s ashes being switched would make sense.
“Yes, she is still alive,” responded Nick.
“No wonder her ashes were switched. I have been looking for her ashes, and I didn’t expect her to be still alive. Do you know where she is now?” Cecelia asked excitedly.
“She… she was…”

Nick’s condition was very serious. After speaking, he began to draw breath with extreme difficulty and coughed violently.
“Mr. Miller, are you all right?”
Cecelia noticed that he seemed to be having an attack. He looked very unwell, lying on the bed and gasping for air as if someone were strangling him.
Realizing that something was wrong, Cecelia quickly pressed the bell by the bed and shouted, “Remington! Come in, Remington!”
Remington heard her call and rushed in, seeing Nick struggling on the bed.
“What’s going on?” he asked.
“It seems like his condition has worsened. Call the doctor! Hurry up!” Cecelia urged.
Remington immediately shouted to his subordinates, “Quick! Call the doctor!”
The bodyguards hurried to look for the doctor.
Cecelia looked at Nick’s grimace and anxiously said, “Mr. Miller, Hold on!”
She had many more questions to ask him, so she couldn’t let anything happen to him!
The man tortured by illness struggled wildly like he had epilepsy, already delirious.

Remington also helped restrain Nick and pinned down his hand where there was a syringe needle.
Cecelia frowned tightly. She had a feeling that Nick’s symptoms were not like those of gastric cancer, but more like the failure of some org an.
At this moment, a young man darted in through the door when he found Nick having an attack.
“Dad! Dad! Are you okay?” the young man shouted in grief.
Cecelia was particularly shocked when she saw the man because he was the one who had secretly sent her blue jacaranda flowers several times.
“So he is Nick’s son?” wondered Cecelia.
There was another rush of feet from the door, and medical staff rushed in.
Cecelia and Remington had to step aside. The doctor examined Nick’s symptoms and immediately said, “Quick! Take him to the emergency room!”
The medical staff pushed Nick into the emergency room, and Cecelia, Remington, and the young man followed.

Seeing the grieving man, Cecelia walked over and asked, “Are you Mr. Miller’s son?”
The man nodded. “Yes. I’m Morty Miller.”
“Hello, Morty! Were you the one who sent the blue jacaranda flowers to my mother and to me?” Cecelia asked.
“Yes, it was me.”
Morty was slim and handsome and looked quite young. He now immersed himself in great grief because of his father’s illness.
Cecelia thought about what Nick had told her earlier. Someone had been spying on her and her mother, and that was why he had asked Morty to send them flowers as a hint.
She wondered who had been spying on them over the years.
Cecelia wanted to talk to Morty, but there was no way Remington would give her a chance to chat alone with the young man.
If Cecelia was going to talk with Morty, she would have to let him be there.

Remington walked over, stood next to Cecelia, and asked, “Morty, when was your father diagnosed with cancer?”
“Last year,” responded Morty.

“Are you currently taking care of your father while going to school?” Remington asked again.
“I have been taking care of my father all along, but I have also been interning and working,” the young man replied.
From their conversation, Cecelia was able to learn a little about the lives of Nick and Morty over the years.
It didn’t sound very ideal and was even somewhat difficult.
Nick had been expelled from the University of the Center City for some reason and lost both his reputation and honor. His recent life was not easy.
He had to raise his son alone, and he even got cancer. It was easy to imagine how difficult it was for the father and son.
Before they chatted for long, the door to the emergency room. opened, and everyone turned around together.
Seeing the doctor come out, Cecelia and Remington walked up to the doctor together with Morty.
“Doctor! How is my father?”
The doctor shook his head. “I’m sorry. We did our best. He’s gone.” Morty froze, his eyes turning red. He couldn’t believe that his father. had just passed away.
A wave of sadness also flooded over Cecelia. She felt a lump in her throat and her eyes got moist with tears.
It wasn’t easy for her to finally find Professor Miller, but as soon as they met, he passed away. Cecelia felt really bad.
“Morty, I’m so sorry for your loss.” Remington said, also feeling sad as he patted Morty’s shoulder to comfort him.
The doctor was about to leave, but Cecelia stopped him. “Doctor! May I ask what was the cause of death for the patient?”
Remington and Morty both looked at Cecelia when she asked this question.
“The patient died of heart failure. We did our best to save him, but unfortunately, we failed,” the doctor explained.

“As far as I know, the patient suffered from stomach cancer and had undergone surgery to remove it. The illness shouldn’t be life- threatening in a short time. Why did he suddenly experience heart failure today?” Cecelia asked again.
“Well, we’re not entirely sure. The patient was in the late stages of cancer and his condition was severe. He could pass away at any time, and it was possible for this symptom to occur.”
After finishing his sentences, the doctor left.
A while later, a nurse pushed Nick’s body, which was covered with a white sheet out.
“Dad! Dad!” Morty cried out in despair, but his father could never wake up again.
The body was sent to the ward for processing, and Remington arranged for someone to take care of the aftermath.
Looking at the back of the crying Morty while standing at the door of the ward, Cecelia realized for the first time that perhaps it was her investigation into her mother’s case that had caused the deaths of so many innocent people.
Ida and Paul were gone, and so was Nick now.
Cecelia felt very sad when she thought she had brought misfortune to so many people.
Remington sensed her grief and comforted her by patting her shoulder gently.
Cecelia turned her head and asked, “Remington, Mr. Miller wouldn’t have died if I hadn’t come here today, right?”
At this moment, she had no rejection or hostility toward him. She just wanted an answer from him.
Remington said softly, “Death and illness are a natural part of life. Professor Miller suffered from stomach cancer. Death may be a merciful release for him. This has nothing to do with you. You don’t have to feel guilty.”
“But I feel like his death couldn’t be just a coincidence. How could stomach cancer suddenly cause heart failure?”
Cecelia couldn’t believe Nick had really died of illness. She felt like she was in a big trap.
Before she found out the truth about her mother’s case, she couldn’t easily believe anything she saw

Remington looked into her eyes and thought for a few seconds before asking, “Are you suspecting that something is wrong with his death?”
“Yes,” responded Cecelia.
“Since you suspect it, then let’s have an autopsy performed on him. The results of the autopsy can tell you the truth.
After saying this, Remington took out his phone, “I’ll contact the forensic doctor.
With that, he turned around and made the call. Cecelia stared at his back and let out a deep breath.
At this moment, she really wanted to thank Remington for his unconditional support and trust.
Cecelia walked into the ward and told Morty about the autopsy. “Morty, I want to find out the real cause of Mr. Miller’s death. I need your consent.”
“Are you saying you want to have an autopsy performed on my father? But the doctors said he died of natural causes,” responded Morty.
“I just want to prove whether it was a natural death or not,” said Cécelia.
“All right then.” Morty agreed.
Remington had contacted his friend who was working in the criminal investigation department’s forensic team and promised to help with the autopsy, but Nick’s body had to be transported there.
All of these matters were handled by Remington’s subordinates. They sent the body to the forensic láb, and the autopsy report wouldn’t be ready until the next day.
Before leaving, Cecelia asked in a concerned voice, “Morty, do you have a job now? If you don’t, call me and I’ll recommend one for
you.’
Remington was worried that Cecelia was having a thing for the young man, and he immediately said, “Morty, after you are done. dealing with Professor Miller’s funeral, you can go to the Nelson Group. I will arrange a suitable job for you.”
Upon that, Cecelia couldn’t help but look at Remington.
Remington looked calm and didn’t seem to be joking.

“Thank you, Miss Cecelia and Mr. Nelson. Let’s talk about it after my father’s funeral. I’m going back now!”
After Morty left, Cecelia also planned to leave. Remington said, “Let me drive you home.”
“No, thanks! Someone is always here to pick me up.” Cecelia rejected it.
Verda had driven over and parked in front of them. Cecelia opened the car door and got in.
Remington watched Cecelia leave without stopping her, because they would get the autopsy report tomorrow, and he would have a chance to meet her again.
As soon as Remington got into his car, he received a call from Winger. “Mr. Nelson! I’ve gotten the DNA test report.'”
