Chapter 131 A Woman Who Cared About Me
Jericho gripped the armrests of his wheelchair as he saw the woman's presence.
"Why did you bring her?"
Noah looked indifferent as he said, "Weren't you the one who said you'd clear up the misunderstanding as soon as possible?"
"I'm referring to you!" Jericho shouted as he glared at him.
With a faint smile on his lips, Noah looked at Stella and gestured with his hands.
Mia walked slowly towards him. The closer they were, the clearer the past that flashed through her mind.
There was a cold expression on Jericho's face. He turned his back slightly. But when he leaned forward to hold the wheelchair, the necklace hidden under his hospital gown was exposed.
When she saw the necklace, Mia's heart skipped a beat. She has one just like it around her neck. Actually, it wasn't a necklace - it was just an ordinary chain with a ring on it.
The ring wasn't valuable and the necklace was made of cheap material. It had been worn for so long that it was already rusty.
Mia remembered that this was a gift she had shamelessly given to Jericho. When she was sixteen years old, she saved her breakfast money for three days and picked out this pair of rings from the little shop opposite the school.
Although she was a girl who had begun to fall in love, the boy she loved was still indifferent. It seemed that the only way he could express his love was by bullying her even more.
Although Mia was almost in tears at his mischievousness, she stubbornly gave him one of the rings.
"What does it mean?" The boy blushed as he asked, even though he knew the meaning behind it.
"It means that... you can only be nice to me from now on, and don't bully me!"
"Hah, it's just a broken iron ring... It's not even made of silver!"
"Jericho, do you still want it?"
"I didn't say no, it's better than having nothing!"
"Well... Mia!" Although he was on cloud nine deep in his heart, he still acted harsh. "This ring is just too simple! If I make a lot of money in the future, I'll buy you a real diamond ring!"
As her fondest memory ended, Mia slowly touched her neck and held the ring tightly in her hand.
Indeed, he was now in a higher position and earning more money than before.
But, she wondered, did he remember all the promises he had made?
Jericho turned his back to her, clenched his hands and bit his lip.
"Jericho." After a long pause, Mia uttered in a low voice.
"I know you don't want to see me. Since you have decided to break off our contact in the future, let's just end this- once and for all".
Stella was startled when she heard her explanation. She rushed over and grabbed her arms. "Mia, what are you talking about?"
"Stella, I understand your good intentions." Mia took a deep breath and forced a smile as she continued, "But it seems that Mr. Hart... He obviously doesn't want to talk to me anymore."
"No, Mia! He's actually..."
"He should give me my thing back!"
At this point, Jericho was stunned by her words. His heart tightened painfully, as if blood were pouring out of it.
He knew that she was referring to the ring around his neck.
Little did she know the hardships he had endured over the past ten years just to protect that ring? When he was imprisoned and feeling completely hopeless in his life, this ring became his mental pillar of strength to carry on.
Life in prison was difficult - he often came into conflict with other prisoners. Even when he was badly beaten, he protected the ring dearly.
Everyone knew how much he treasured that ring and felt that he had lost his mind. After all, how could an ordinary person risk his life just to protect a twenty-dollar ring?
Jericho unconsciously protected the ring as he slowly turned his back to look at Mia.
"I'm sorry, but it's mine."
"I bought it back then," Mia replied, looking indifferent.
"True, you bought it. But... you gave it to me!" Jericho's eyes widened as he clutched the ring tightly. "Since you gave it to me, it's mine now. Why do you want it back?"
"I gave it to the man who is willing to treat me well all his life! Not you!" Mia glared at him bitterly.
