Adam didn’t dare to move anymore. He immediately stuffed Lumma into the bed, turned around, and went to the bathroom to soak the towel in hot water. Then, he returned to the bedside to gently wash her face.
When he reached the spot which had been kissed by that strange woman, he wiped it a bit harder as if to wash away the marks left on her body by others.
Lumma was his wife, but he had never even kissed her face. Thus, Adam didn’t want anyone else to kiss Lumma.
“Ruby, Harry…” Lumma grabbed Adam’s hand suddenly without opening her eyes. “You guys are so kind to me. When will I be able to repay you?”
“You don’t have to repay them. I’ll help you do it in the future.” Adam held her fair and slender hand and squeezed it slightly. “Hey, go to sleep. From now on, I have your back.”
Lumma was puzzled. “You? Who are you?”
“I am your husband, the man who will be with you for the rest of my life.” Adam really wanted to tell her this, but he didn’t have the right to say so right now.
He rubbed Lumma’s head and said softly, “Who do you want me to be?”
Lumma opened her eyes and met his deep ones. She felt familiar, yet strange. “Are you a magician? Can you be whoever I want you to be?”
The girl’s beautiful eyes were full of drunkenness, but the light in her eyes was unconcealable She seemed beautiful and cute, which made Adam want to cherish her even more. “Well, tell
But Adam never expected her to open her arms suddenly and call softly, “Mommy, I want a hug!”
“Mommy?” Adam was very upset that she wished he was her mother, but he couldn’t refuse her begging for a hug. He opened his arms and hugged her, patting her on the back lightly. “Good girl.
Go to sleep.”
She was a young girl around the same age as Adam’s younger sister Judy. When Judy was still an ignorant and playful kid, Lumma had already shouldered the burden that shouldn’t belong to her age.
Those burdens were brought to her by her native family. She had no choice but to grit her teeth and carry them. She hid her weakness in a corner of her heart and tried to heal her wounds alone.
Adam was so distressed that he hugged her tightly. He wanted to say something, but he didn’t know what to say.
Lumma murmured, “My head hurts. I want water…”
Adam wanted to let her go to get water. But just as he was about to leave, she held him tighter. “You said you wouldn’t leave me behind.”
“I’m not going to abandon you. You’re thirsty, so I’ll get you some water.” Adam explained patiently, but Lumma didn’t listen at all. She tightly clutched the corners of his clothes, refusing to let go. Thus, Adam had to give in.
He sat on the edge of the bed, quietly accompanying her.
