Lily said hastily, “I was just joking. Why are you so serious?”

“No,” he replied.

“No.” Odell’s tone was still cold, but it was not as severe as it had been earlier.

Lily did not know whether to feel relieved or be depressed. She said in a resigned tone of voice, “Alright, I won’t disturb you anymore. Goodbye.”

She politely took a few steps back.
