Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) novel Chapter 1009

He and the folks from the Riddle family were convinced that King could be someone from Beaconsfield. After all, the guy always wore a mask, so he could be anyone.

But their investigation had hit a dead end. They had scrutinized every possible suspect during all conceivable timelines, and every time, King had shown up even when those suspects were accounted for, quashing any doubts.

So, if King wasn’t a Beaconsfield local, who could he be? And having such vile intentions toward his sister, no less.

He hadn’t given up chasing after King. But ever since that explosion, it was like King had vanished into thin air.

He was sure, though, King hadn’t met his end.

His unexpected appearance at tonight’s dinner party threw him for a loop.

The Lynch family hosted the dinner, and every move got reported to Dustin. By the time Dustin got back to the party, the man had vanished, as fleeting as a summer storm.

But that mask was unmistakable. It was King.

And if King was alive, maybe Max was too?

The Dorsey family’s mansion had its secrets, didn’t it? If someone jumped off the nearby cliff, might there be a sliver of hope for survival?

But Dustin kept this secret from Brielle, fearing to raise her hopes only to dash them again.

She had already faced despair once. Giving her hope and then snatching it away would be far crueler than enduring despair tenfold.

Dustin recounted everything he had discovered about King, emphasizing, “To this day, no one has unraveled his identity. It’s unexpected but seems linked to something over in Saudi, yet who he could be among Beaconsfield’s own, neither I nor the Riddle family have figured out.”

“Bro, King might be two people.”

Her words hit him like a bolt of lightning.

Dustin’s eyelashes fluttered heavily before he looked up. “How did you come to think this?”

Sitting on the couch, Brielle was a bundle of suppressed excitement. But soon, guilt washed over her face.

“Bro, I’m sorry. I know the Lynch family has a lot on their plate, and you’ve dropped everything to be here with me. Now, I’m asking you to divert your attention to investigate something else. Mom is still undercover, and I really am sorry.”

Dustin knew how fragile Brielle had been, almost as if a single touch could shatter her. He had been cautious not to raise his voice around her.

But now, seeing a glimmer of hope in her eyes, something he hadn’t seen in a long time, he reassured her, “Don’t say that. The Lynch family isn’t so fragile. Even if I have to divert some resources to help you investigate, it’s no big deal. Dad and I are indeed busy rooting out a mole. The adversary is cunning. You know the Lynch family’s butler? He’s been with us for many years, watched dad grow up. I’ve got my suspicions about him, but the old coot’s cautious, and grandma still considers him a friend. Without solid evidence, my hands are tied. Now that your identity is out, those lurking in the shadows will make their move. I’m more worried about you.”

Dustin was adept. If such matters had befallen another influential family, the wool might have been pulled over their eyes for years, leaving them clueless.

But Dustin was quick on the uptake, hindered only by the butler’s special status and the lack of concrete evidence.

The deeper he dug, the more he felt as if the world he knew was cracking open, revealing a monstrous reality beneath.

But for those who dared hurt his sister, once he had the evidence, their days were numbered.
