Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) novel Chapter 1279

It was already 10 p.m.

Tonight, Brielle and King had shared a cozy dinner and then settled down on the couch together. King’s insistence on not going to work wasn’t just talk.

After dinner, he picked up a book, using her lap as a pillow, and started reading with genuine interest. Meanwhile, Brielle, sitting upright, was diligently typing away on her laptop. The weight of his head on her lap wasn’t a bother; she actually cherished their closeness.

The documents she was reviewing were all about Stellar Stage Entertainment. She’d spent the entire afternoon going through them, and it was clear that the company was running smoothly. Their plans for the upcoming year were so well laid out that there seemed little for her to do.

Why, then, did Stellar Stage Entertainment bring her on as CEO? Was it just for show?

Brielle couldn’t help but be puzzled. If Stellar Stage Entertainment hadn’t been such a legit operation, she might have thought she’d walked into some sort of scam. But the company was above board, so she figured she’d just hit a stroke of incredible luck this year.

Feeling restless, King shifted his head on her lap and put down his book to gaze at her. Brielle’s expression intentionally cooled, her lips pursing slightly.

“What are you staring at?” she asked.

King chuckled softly and sighed. “This feeling of being taken care of, not having to do anything, just being lazy—it’s nice.”

Brielle almost burst into laughter but managed to turn her head away, her eyes twinkling with amusement, though her tone remained unchanged. “Ambitious,” she teased.

King closed his eyes, a peaceful expression on his face. This was a scenario he had never dared to dream of. Being with Brielle at this moment, not disliked by her, sometimes felt like living a dream.

He had mentioned wanting a present for his birthday. But that day, she had smelled another woman’s perfume on him and impulsively threw a glass of milk at him. She thought he might be seeing someone else, considering he never allowed her out, yet he would occasionally leave without explanation. The insecurity of waiting for him to return grew unbearable the moment she detected the scent of perfume on him, leading her to act without thinking. Especially since he had forced her into things without offering any explanation for the perfume.

“Is it really for me?” King’s voice carried a hint of uncertainty, his fingers hesitating before retracting slightly.

“Yeah, it’s just a tie. Grabbed it on a whim.”

Seeing him accept the gift, Brielle sighed in relief. King, with downcast eyes, murmured, “This is the third gift you’ve given me.”

Brielle paused, puzzled. Was it? She could only recall this being the first.
