Tiffanie was probably feeling the same way at that moment.
Here they were, two people carrying their own hidden struggles, laying bare their deepest wounds to each other. They held on tight, finding comfort in each other's arms.
The guy was quickly bundled into the police car, still kicking up a fuss and spewing curses that even the cops were tired of hearing.
Once peace settled back in, Mason let go of Tiffanie's ears and sighed softly.
“What do you feel like eating tonight?” he asked.
Tiffanie was still gripping his shirt, silent.
Mason gave her a gentle pat on the back. “How about I cook something special? We can have a movie night in.”
That got her attention. She blinked her tearful eyes and looked up at him. “Seen any good movies lately?”
In that moment, she seemed so delicate, like she might break at the slightest touch.
Growing up, she had been surrounded by people who were twisted and dark, never really learning what love was.
Mason’s heart ached for her. It felt like he'd spent his whole life saving up all his tenderness just for her.
“I’m not sure, but let’s hold off on buying more furniture. I'll set up the home theater soon. Then I'll make some snacks, and we can munch while we watch.”
Tiffanie felt a bit lighter, like she’d just let go of a heavy load. “Okay, can I have some pretzels? And maybe a fruit platter? Oh, and can you make popcorn?”
She glanced down at her stomach. “Mason, do you think I’ve gained weight?”
Mason wrapped her in his arms and kissed her. “Nah, you look perfect. A little extra just makes you cuter.”
His words lit up her face with a smile. “Then I'll watch you cook.”
