When Aubree got to the set, the crew was already setting up the table for dinner.
“Aubree, over here! The food smells incredible,” someone called out.
“We saved you a spot, come sit down.”
“Hey, did anyone call Mr. Matthew yet?”
Just as the words were spoken, Matthew appeared, looking fresh and wide awake, as if he hadn’t just rolled out of bed.
Casey, sitting at the head of the table, glanced at his son with a knowing look. They shared a silent understanding.
Instead of commenting, Casey simply encouraged Aubree to eat up, hinting that once the rain cleared, they’d have some night scenes to shoot.
Matthew felt the urge to protest—it was late, and night shoots weren’t the safest. But Aubree shot him a knowing glance that quieted him instantly.
With so many people around, Matthew couldn't comfortably pass her any food, so he just ate in silence, feeling both frustrated and oddly content. He was reminded of their earlier time together, which made his heart soften.
Aubree hadn't tasted food this flavorful in ages, and she couldn't resist indulging in several slices of beef. She was practically drooling but held back, mindful of the salt content that could cause her to look puffy on camera. Even so, those few bites left her deeply satisfied.
Later that evening, Matthew hung around in the lobby, watching the filming. As the crew set up the scene, Casey joined him, casually mentioning he'd set up a kissing scene for Aubree.
Matthew tensed up. “Dad, are you doing this to mess with me?”
Casey chuckled, taking a sip from his thermos filled with herbal tea.
“Aren’t you planning to be with her long-term? You need to respect her career.”
Matthew's expression softened as he realized what Casey was getting at.
