Chapter 235
Sophia fished out a key from her pocket, intending to release Brielle, but Brielle refused. “When Tessa comes over here, it’s not going to look good if she sees me sitting here all comfy.”
Sophia didn’t reply, her silence thick as she unlocked the handcuffs, Brielle raised an eyebrow but didn’t object. As Brielle was gently let down, the numbness and panic of suspension slowly subsided, and she sat aside, gasping for air. The blood from her wrists dripped down her fingertips onto the floor, and only then did the pain register.
A knock came from the door, followed by the bodyguard’s voice. “Miss Sophia, could you step out? Miss Tessa’s getting impatient.” It seemed Tessa was itching for the bodyguards to take action, unable to wait another second.
Sophia’s brow furrowed, glancing at Brielle before stepping to the door and cracking it open. Once outside, she closed the door behind her. “What does Tessa want you to do?”
The bodyguards‘ faces immediately took on a lecherous look, with professional video cameras in hand. Sophia instantly knew Tessa intended to capture the scene personally, to show to all of Beaconsfield. Tessa never spared those who crossed her.
“Miss Sophia, the next part might be a bit much. Maybe you should leave and come back after we’ve finished our task?” Everyone knew Sophia was on good terms with Tessa, so they dared not offend her.
Sophia bit her lip, knowing she could stall for maybe another half hour. If Max didn’t show up, Brielle had no chance of escaping the night’s fate. She turned back, telling the bodyguards, “Just wait. I’ve got a few words for Brielle.”
The bodyguards nodded, obedient to her command.
Sophia re–entered the room to find Brielle with her eyes closed, resting in the chair, and she couldn’t help but snort. “You’re pretty calm. I can only delay for so long. If no one comes for you, you know what’s coming.”
Despite the fresh handprints on her cheeks, Brielle’s demeanor remained unspoiled. She didn’t even open her eyes, regulating her breathing.
She wasn’t rushed, but Sophia was. “Is what you said earlier just a ploy? Are you using me to buy time? If he doesn’t come tonight, it’s not just you who’s in trouble. Tessa will have my head too. You’ve seen what she can do, right?”
Brielle’s eyes slowly opened, her tone nonchalant. “He’ll come.”
Seeing Brielle so composed, Sophia calmed down too.
Time ticked away, and the bodyguards knocked again. The second time there was a knock, Sophia heard Tessa’s voice. Brielle raised an eyebrow, “She’s come herself?”
Sophia sneered, “She wasn’t actually unconscious. Why couldn’t she come in person? I might be doomed because of you this time.”
