Master of his heart (Max and Brielle) novel Chapter 962

A servant hurriedly passed over a handkerchief, and he gently wiped his fingertips, a slight smirk forming at the corners of his mouth.

"Ever since he gave up on the plan, the pain in his head has gotten worse by the day. You know how tough he is, right? Imagine the kind of pain that even he can't handle – it would drive anyone else insane. But he endured it, stayed gentle with you – that's true love for you."

He spoke of love, but his eyes were full of mockery, clearly scoffing at the idea.

Brielle couldn't stand to listen any longer; a voice inside her insisted that everything King said was true. She wasn't worried about her own safety anymore; all she could think about was Max. Where could he be now? Could he be hiding somewhere, unable to bear the pain?

It wasn't that he didn't want to answer her calls, but maybe he was just too out of it to even reach for his phone.

Max.

Max.

The thought of him made Brielle's heart ache.

King kept his eyes on the surveillance monitors, noticing the subtle pain in her expressions. He realized her suffering didn't bring him the satisfaction he had expected.

Making her suffer didn't make him happy.

As the car continued down the road, Brielle managed to pull herself together. If she kept drowning in the mood King had set, she'd spend the whole ride in a daze, not thinking, not noticing the occasional landmarks they passed.

She wasn't going to let him lead her around anymore. She turned to look out the window.

But it was too dark outside, and the fleeting landmarks suggested they were leaving Beaconsfield, heading to who knows where.

"Did you send Aubree back? Boss King is supposed to be a man of his word."

Her tone was casual, but she closed her eyes to hide any emotions that might give her away.

"Not yet, Brielle. I need to see you first before I let her go."

Brielle had no idea what kind of history she had with this man. She fell silent, and the car returned to its quiet hum.

By the time they reached the neighboring city, Brielle had fallen asleep. Pregnant and tired, she couldn't handle such a long journey.

As soon as the car stopped, she got out and started vomiting violently, like her stomach was turning inside out. Her face was pale, the healthy glow Max had helped her regain completely gone, her eyes sunken, her body thin again.

Brielle's legs felt like jelly, as if they were carrying a thousand pounds, making it hard for her to move. She had no clue where they had parked. Just as she looked up to get a better look, someone threw a black cloth over her eyes, plunging her into darkness.
