My Brother's Best Friend Is My Mate novel Chapter 32

I let out a of relief as Carter finally pulls up to the Liam's house. I still haven't gotten over how huge his house is, I have to ask him in detail, specifically what he does for a living. "Finally!" Spencer exclaims and jumps out of the back of the car from where she was seated beside me. Carter soon leaves the car and I follow him and Spencer until I feel a warm hand on my shoulder. Once again, the fireworks ignite in my hand already and I look up at Liam. Is he feeling the too? Maybe it's my nerves or I'm imagining the sparks that are currently jumping around in my arm. "I'm sorry about what happened today, I should've protected you." Liam says looking like the guiltilest person ever. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. "Liam, if anything you are the reason I'm not dead right now. You did all you could to protect me and there was no way you knew what was going to happen." I say, hoping to dilute some of his guilt. "Liam, if anything you are the reason I'm not dead right now. You did all you could to protect me and there was no way you knew what was going to happen." I say, hoping to dilute some of his guilt. He face just looks so guilty and I just want to erase that frown that's crinkling his perfectly handsome face." Promise me that you'll always tell me where your going, so that I can protect you." Liam is staring at me with pleading puppy eyes that make girls want to jump off the London Bridge. Can't say I wouldn't join them. "Fine. I promise." I tell him truthfully and his face lights up with nothing but relief. Liam finally lets go of my arm, which he was holding onto so gently, like I'm the only thing keeping him from shattering into a million pieces. Spencer, Carter and I tramp up the steps of Liam's lavishly elegant house. I observe that there are men here and there, positioned around the house like guards and a few people are streaming around the large house doing their daily activities. "This is where you tell Emerald what color casket you want at your funeral, as well as what type of flowers." Spencer reinforces her easier threat aimed at Carter. I see him bolt down the steps like a flash of lightning. "I'm gonna help my mom wash her clothes, you know do the dishes...I'll be back later, bye Emerald!" Carter exclaims before he completely disappears. I wave at his retreating figure and can't help laughing at how exciting and funny Carter is. He's almost like a ray of sunshine during the darkest times and I feel like I need someone like this in my life. Spencer shakes her head and frowns before opening the door and pulling me inside. "Spencer!" A voice immediately greets us. A woman in a sunflower dress who seems to be in her middle age is standing at the door with a batch of cookies on a platter in her hands. "Emerald!" She says again before I can I introduce myself. The smiling woman looks strikingly familiar and I internally gasp as I figure out who she is. "Your Liam's mom?" I say but but it comes out more of a question. The woman laughs and hands Spencer the cookies before draping me into a warm hug. Spencer dissappears with her treats, leaving me with Liam's mom. "Nice to meet you Miss. Jones." I say extending my hand for her to shake. She pushes it away and hugs me again instead. "Call me Sarah. My, you're prettier than I thought you would be." She laughs and pulls me through the large house and we enter what looks like a kitchen. Liam's 'kitchen' looks like it could fit two (2) of my beds, with all of the appliances in my house and even have place left to hold a cooking contest with 50 or more participants. Sarah gestures for me to sit down in one of the stools at the island and I do just that as she uses her mittened hand, which had a really good mouse design on it, and takes out a platter of brownies. Yum.
