She discreetly pressed her lips together, harboring an indescribable emotion deep within her.
It was a feeling she couldn't quite articulate, and she wasn't sure what it signified.
Camille remained unresponsive and simply looked at Page. Page hesitated, then confessed her innermost ambitions, saying, "I don't want the entire Armstrong family to be entirely under his control. I'm aware that the majority of Armstrong Corp now leans toward Horace, and that's something I can't change. But what I can change is the Armstrong family's assets. Despite all the events that have occurred in the family, I believe that even a weak camel is larger than a horse. I don't want all my efforts in life to yield no returns. So, I must fight for my rightful share."
"This is your matter. Why do you assume that I'll definitely agree? Moreover, this situation isn't so severe that you need to come to me for reconciliation. After all, you must have evidence to support your case, given how much you know about him. If you have evidence, you already have the upper hand. Are you hoping I'll join in and share the spoils?" Camille chuckled lightly, but her eyes remained icy. Her gaze was colder than before.
In response to her words, Page was candid. "Yes, you're right. I could do this without seeking your help. I might not even need anyone else. Once the time is right, I can produce the evidence I have and render him speechless."
"In that case, why approach me?"
"Because I want assurance. When someone goes mad, they're capable of anything. I don't want to endanger my own safety and life. So, I need your help."
Page's expression changed, and her gaze returned to that kind of prideful demeanor. She was inherently a person with a lot of integrity. Therefore, when she returned to her normal state, it was easy to see how false her previous plea for forgiveness was. Even when she cried and shed tears, Camille had never believed that Page genuinely desired forgiveness from the heart. Camille had always believed that Page was a person with a sense of superiority, or in simpler terms, she looked down on Camille.
This was the reason Camille never understood. When Page learned that Camille had her own company, Page initially assumed it was a scam or that Camille was using someone else's company as a means to deceive them. However, once she realized that the company indeed belonged to Camille, and not only that, but Camille had intervened when the situation nearly led to the bankruptcy of Armstrong Corp during the matter involving Elijah. Camille had successfully resolved the situation and brought in a professional team from Mario to handle the chaotic affairs of Armstrong Corp. At the time, Page had scoffed at her, not thinking much of Camille's abilities. She refused to acknowledge Camille's capabilities, yet she enjoyed the benefits Camille's abilities brought. She even believed it was all just a matter of coincidence and Camille's luck.
But time revealed people's true nature. Over time and through various experiences, Page was forced to acknowledge Camille's competence. Most importantly, she had seen Camille's influence in Armstrong Corp and how highly she was regarded by the Simpsons. The Simpsons treated Camille as if she were one of their own, and this conclusion was drawn after numerous tests and observations.
After carefully weighing her options, Page decided to change her mind. This led to the current conversation.
Page's straightforwardness elicited a light chuckle from Camille. Camille asked, "Why do you think I would help you? After all, you treated me and my grandmother in a certain way, something I'll never forget. Have you forgotten that?"
Page's expression shifted briefly, but she quickly regained her composure. She replied, "I've said what I needed to about your grandmother. It was her honor to become my father's second wife, considering she was nothing to begin with."
Camille retorted, "So what? Now you want my help, and my thoughts are what matter most, aren't they?" She emphasized that a person's status shouldn't justify mistreatment.
Even though Page's grandmother was her father's second wife, Camille believed there was no reason to refuse Page's request. The grandmother had done nothing wrong and had cared for Camille since she was young, so Camille felt Page should be grateful.
Camille's thoughts remained inscrutable to Page, who inquired, "So, what would it take for you to help me? Should I apologize to your grandmother, or do you have something else in mind? Just say the word, and I'll do it."
Camille, however, coolly responded, "No need, there's nothing required."
She believed an apology would only trouble her grandmother, who didn't need it and should be left undisturbed.
Page frowned and asked, "So, you still won't help me, right?"
