Amber's face tightened as she bit her lip.
"I know. I went back to the apartment with her, and I saw a man get out of a black car. They seemed cautious, so they entered the apartment separately. The man didn't drive in, so I waited outside. He left around dawn," she said.
"Who was he?" Kian asked.
"Preston," Amber replied.
Kian's eyes flickered, and his hand, which had been in his pocket all along, tightly gripped the recording function he had activated earlier. Unfazed, he continued, "Are you sure it was him?"
"I'm certain because I've seen him before. He's one of the people in charge of this project, so I recognize him. Moreover, I'm sure because I was curious about Louise's reaction when she answered the phone. I thought she was looking for some connections, so she always dated someone older. That's why I followed her. I wanted to make her leave the company through that means," Amber explained.
Amber hadn't expected to see Preston there. She was completely stunned.
So she waited at the apartment entrance for Preston to come out, and once he did, he immediately drove away.
Amber detailed everything she saw to Kian, saying, "Kian, every word I've said is true. At this point, there's no need for me to hide anything. I never intended to harm Louise. I only wanted to secure my position in the company. As for why Mr. Baxter did what he did, I'm not sure. However, Louise's suicide should have something to do with him, right?"
Kian nodded without responding, simply saying, "I've heard everything you said. Have a rest now. You can stay here and don't need to go out for the next few days. There will be someone to deliver food to you, and if you need anything, you can contact the staff."
After making sure Amber was taken care of, Kian left the room, closing the door behind him.
Kian didn't stay at the villa for long and left directly. Once he was in the car, he called Ayan.
He informed Ayan, "Mr. Simpson, Amber said that the person who went back to Louise's apartment with her that night was Preston."
Ayan didn't seem surprised; he simply responded with a faint "Hmm" and asked Kian to discuss it further at the office.
Simpson Group's office.
Kian played the recorded conversation he had with Amber for Ayan. He suggested, "Should we hand over this recording to the police for investigation?"
Ayan furrowed his brow slightly and said, "Handing it over directly to the police won't be very effective. Let Jenson go meet Amber. As for the people who rear-ended Amber's car, we're not sure. In any case, let's not get involved in this matter. Let everything proceed according to the police's procedures."
Kian nodded and immediately contacted Jenson.
In the afternoon, Amber went to the police station with Jenson accompanying her.
She also reported the car accident that occurred today because the car was severely damaged. The police found Amber's and the driver's fingerprints in the car, so every word she said was considered credible.
Following Jenson's guidance, Amber recounted everything she had witnessed to the police during their questioning.
Her genuine fear and unease reflected her true emotions, as judged by the police. In fact, she was genuinely terrified because she was worried about the consequences for her parents after reporting the incident. The warnings and threats made her afraid, but she had no other choice. Since she had already chosen a side, she had to cooperate.
Amber's testimony immediately provided the police with leads for investigation. Additionally, Logan presented the video Kian had given him on Ayan's instruction, and based on Amber's provided timeline, it matched the time in the video.
There were a difference between the person and license plate in the video compared to what Amber said. This was something the police need to investigate and clarify.
The police conducted the investigation at a remarkably fast pace, as if someone was secretly guiding them. They reviewed surveillance videos from several road segments based on all the calculations. Due to the large number of videos, they had to be carefully filtered.
It was already evening, but the city's hustle and bustle showed no signs of stopping.
A man stood by the floor-to-ceiling window of a high-rise, overlooking everything in front of him. Sean watched him cautiously and said, "Mr. Walker, the police have started investigating your whereabouts from a few days ago. They also asked the museum to retrieve footage of your interaction with Louise at the museum and inquired about your relationship with her during this project. What do you think the police are looking for?"
Preston narrowed his eyes slightly, a hint of coldness gleaming in his gaze. However, when he turned to look at Sean, all that coldness vanished, leaving behind an indifferent smile. He asked, "What do you think they're looking for?"
Sean looked at him puzzled, his expression filled with confusion. "Is it related to Louise?"
Preston didn't answer the question directly, only turned to look at Sean. However, his gaze didn't linger on him for more than a couple of seconds.
