And that poor woman, Thelma, had already suffered so much.
Ted comforted Janine gently. "The doctors are performing the surgery now, and the medical team here is highly skilled. Trust me, Charles will be fine."
"Yes, Mom," Skylar chimed in, trying to reassure her mother. "Charles is tough. He's going to be okay and turn this calamity into a blessing."
Although Skylar was deeply worried, a voice inside her kept insisting that Charles would be okay, that his life was not in danger.
Janine understood they were trying to console her, and in her heart, she prayed for the same outcome they spoke of.
Thankfully, after about half an hour, Thelma was the first to be wheeled out of the operating room.
The doctor explained that her injuries weren't too severe—she had fractures in her arm and leg, some minor injuries, and a concussion, but with time to recover, she would heal fully.
Another half-hour later, Charles was also brought out of surgery.
His injuries were more serious, including multiple fractures and facial wounds, though fortunately, his internal organs were unharmed. The facial injuries were mostly on the left side of his face.
Upon hearing that Charles' life wasn't in danger, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. They stayed at the hospital, keeping watch until the two woke up.
Around two hours later, Joe and Steven returned.
Steven stood by Charles' bed, his expression grim. For the first time, he wondered if they should discourage Charles from being with Thelma—she seemed to bring too many troubles and misfortunes into his life.
"How did it go? Did the police find out anything?" Janine asked anxiously.
"They're still investigating. The driver was drunk," Steven replied.
Hearing this, Janine was furious. "Why do people still drink and drive? How could they put other people's lives at risk because of their own issues?"

More chapters please...
Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
