As Joe was about to continue, someone alled. His expression 

turned grave while on the phone. 

Skylar and Steven were silent. 

Joe asked, “Is he dead?” 

The person on the line responded inaudibly to Skylar. Joe hung up and informed Skylar, “I’m going out.” 

“You’ve been drinking. You can’t drive,” reminded Skylar. 

Joe nodded and replied, “Lucas is coming to pick me up.” 

It was probably an emergency, as Joe left immediately, leaving Skylar 

with Joe. 

“Skye, take care of yourself and carry pepper spray wherever you go. Sometimes, you’ve got to be a little selfish. Don’t interfere with the business of others.” Steven only had eyes for Skylar’s safety. He 

couldn’t be bothered to think for others. 

Steven would rather she stay away if someone had been too greedy and brought misfortune onto themselves. 

Skylar was afraid Steven would be worried. She said obediently, “I’ll listen to you. I’ve already put pepper spray in my bag.” 

Steven’s worry subsided upon hearing that. He checked his watch and said, “It’s getting late now. I’ll tidy up the cutleries with you. Get an early rest tonight.” 

“Alright.” 

Skylar received a phone call from Paul half an hour later. 

“Mrs. Martin, I’ve sent Lucas to pick you up from Galaxy Villa. Mr. Martin is injured. He’s in the hospital now,” Paul said hurriedly. 

Skylar immediately asked, “How did it happen? What did the doctors say?” 

“It’s hard to explain through the phone. Mr. Martin didn’t want me to inform you, but I thought you should know,” said Paul. 

Skylar asked no further questions and went to change. 

Within 20 minutes, she arrived at Apollo Hospital, where Paul waited for her in the corridor. 

“Mr. Martin is being stitched up inside. He was injured in multiple areas. Two of his wounds were quite deep. They were bleeding severely,” Paul explained with furrowed brows. This was the first time he’d seen Joe injured so badly in his long career as his secretary. 

Skylar asked solemnly, “How did he get hurt?” 

Did it have anything to do with the call he received? 

Paul told her what happened. 

The call he’d taken was from one of his elderly relatives in the Martin family. Edwin and his cousin, Derek, had been having fun in a club. They’d ordered a few girls to keep them company. For some reason, they got into a disagreement and began brawling. 

Edwin beat Derek up till he was black and blue. Two of the girls were injured in the process. Their legs had been broken.
