Skylar stood beside Paul and waited for 15 minutes. 

Then, she met Joe. He had taken his shirt off, and he was covered in bandages. 

Joe was surprised to see Skylar at first. Then, he glared at Paul. 

Paul hadn’t gotten Joe’s permission before calling Skylar. He was feeling rather diffident now, so he avoided Joe’s eyes. He said, “I’ll buy a big shirt for you, Mr. Martin.” 

He escaped immediately after. 

“Do we need to fill in the admissions paperwork now?” Skylar only realized she was trembling when her voice shook while talking to the doctor. 

From Paul’s descriptions, Skylar knew that Joe had been stabbed. However, she wasn’t expecting him to be this badly wounded. 

“Thankfully, his vital organs remained unharmed. His seven wounds have been stitched up. However, he needs to be hospitalized for two days. You’ve got to take care of him while he’s in the hospital. The nurses will change out his bandages daily,” said the doctor. 

Skylar immediately nodded and said, “Alright, I’ll do so. Thank you.” 

After he left, Skylar immediately approached Joe and asked, “How are you feeling now?” 

“I’m alright.” He still looked pale and weak. Joe didn’t want Skylar to

“Take a nap. I’ll be in the neighboring bed. Call me if you need anything,” Skylar said gently. 

Joe wasn’t used to being taken care of as a patient. He’d never exposed his vulnerabilities to someone else before. 

However, he’d been awake half the night, and his eyelids were extremely heavy. Even though he hated letting Skylar see this part of him, he grudgingly accepted it. He could rest his worries with her here. Sleep would claim him soon.
