Edith didn’t want to give up, but she couldn’t even retaliate when it came to Jasper.
She walked out of the room with hatred, anger, and reluctance in her eyes. The fear of having to serve jail time also surged within her, creating a mixture of complex feelings.
Tears began to stream down her face and her chest heaved violently from the anger, fear, and refusal to give up.
As the bodyguards led her to the car, Edith requested to call her father.
The bodyguards didn’t stop her.
Edith called her father, Zachary Price. When she heard her father’s kind and deep voice, she could no longer hold her emotions back and cried out, “Dad…”
Zachary’s heart ached when he heard his daughter crying. “Edith, what’s wrong? Tell me slowly. It’s alright. I’m here so it’s going to be alright.”
Although Zachary had no idea what happened, his daughter had always been strong-willed and resilient. She never cried easily.
Yet, she was crying so helplessly now.
Zachary’s heart ached as if a string was tugging at it.
Something major must have happened for his strong-willed daughter to start crying.
Edith calmed herself down before telling her father what happened and also the fact that Jasper was handing her over to the police.
Zachary was shocked and worried upon hearing this. He comforted her saying, “Edith, cooperate with Jasper’s bodyguards and endure it for now. I’ll think of a way to get you out as soon as possible.”
Jasper was the figurehead of Hughes Corporation and held the highest authority in Buscen City. He was known to be ruthless and governed with an iron fist.
After he took over Hughes Corporation, he rapidly acquired many companies, causing many executives to go bankrupt and be burdened with debt.
