By assisting her in this endeavor, Sean Fawcett had expected to reap rich rewards once Yelena was in power.
And so, with equal parts fear and greed, he’d agreed to her plan.
He certainly hadn’t expected front-row seats to so much drama!
The moment they were outside, Willow swatted Xavier’s arm away. “Keep your distance. Let’s not invite any misunderstandings.”
Although she was grateful for the way he’d come to her rescue, that didn’t mean she’d allow him to get cozy with her.
Xavier seemed amused by this prospect. “That’s fine. There won’t be anything to misunderstand, if this becomes real.”
Annoyed, Willow glared at him askance. “It’s fine with you—but not with me.”
She’d decided to keep Xavier at arm’s length, in order to dissuade any notion that he might one day get another chance with her.
That would never, ever happen. It was over between them.
She also had Jasper to worry about. If that man found out Xavier had been this close to her, even if it had only been for a moment… she shuddered to imagine what hell he might raise.
Eager to get away, Willow strode away, at speed.
Xavier kept pace alongside her. “What I’m saying is, how about we announce that we’re dating? Then there would be no need to worry about scandal, no need to hide.”
Willow snapped to a halt. It appeared that she would need to make something clear: “How many times do I have to tell you?! Xavier Hughes, we can never be together! Don’t waste any more of your time on me.”
“Why not?” Suddenly, there was a serious cast to Xavier’s bright, innocent eyes.
“I’m already—” Willow caught herself, just before she announced that she was already a mother of four. She’d almost forgotten that she was still keeping that a secret.
