Chapter 161
The lackey’s misfortune was simply a stroke of bad luck. He had unwittingly accepted favors from Shane and helped him with a small task, never expecting to encounter such trouble.
While tailing Clark, he had a minor accident involving the bald man’s car. As a result, he was taken by several intimidating individuals to a place where he had no choice but to participate in a night of relentless games. If he was slow, he would be beaten If he played the wrong cards, he would be beaten. Even if he won, he would still be beaten….—
It was easy to imagine that not only did he lose all his money, but he also ended up borrowing a significant sum. He swore never to play cards again in his life! The mere sight of cards made him
nauseous.
After a while, the bald man, lighting a cigarette, spoke with a sinister look. “You’re Shane’s lackey. You must know the wicked things he’s done!”
Nervously, the lackey replied, “I don’t know!”
“Say it again. I didn’t hear you clearly.”
The bald man extinguished his cigarette with a menacing gaze, causing the lackey to be on the verge of wetting his pants.
After contemplating for a moment, he finally said, “I genuinely don’t know what he’s done. If you don’t believe me, go investigate. I was released from prison this year, and my family gave money to Shane, so he arranged for me to have a reduced sentence. Just think about it, I’m a newcomer. Shane wouldn’t trust me with any illegal activities, would he?”
When the bald man captured Shane’s lackey, they had already conducted a background check and most
of what he said was true.
“If Shane inquires about the surveillance, how will you respond?”
The lackey was at a loss. Even if he was foolish, he knew that telling the truth would surely result in his demise. “Sir, can you please tell me what to say?”
The lackey cautiously glanced at Clark and the bald man after speaking.
The bald man gave him an approving look and said, “Just say he went gambling and accumulated a substantial amount of debt…”
The lackey nodded repeatedly, feeling bitter inside. Wasn’t that describing himself?
Clark spoke coldly. “Now go back to Shane’s side and gather evidence of his crimes for us.”
“Me?” The lackey nervously said, “I can’t engage in any illegal activities!”
“Isn’t stalking someone illegal?” The bald man ominously listed the criminal charges against the lackey, each one causing him to tremble with fear.
He weakly asked, “If I do it and get caught later, can you testify that I did it to redeem myself?”
“Do you have the right to negotiate?”
“No, I’ll do it.”
Although the lackey didn’t know the full extent of Shane’s criminal activities, he was well aware that as the director of a prison hospital, Shane wouldn’t have been able to arrange for his early release without resorting to questionable mearis.
If he continued down the wrong path with Shane, he would likely spend the rest of his life in prison. In any case, he consoled himself and decided to side with justice.
“Now, get lost!”
