Chapter 430
Even if Pixie wasn’t Esther’s own child, she couldn’t bear to let that couple keep her.
“Ms. Quill, I get your concerns, but you need to know our laws. You aren’t Pixie’s biological family, so it’s tough for you to gain custody. The judge might consider Pixie’s disrupted surgery, too. As a dad, I suggest not getting too caught up in this. It’s better to search for your daughter.”
Esther got the point, but how could she ignore Pixie’s situation?
“Officer, will they keep raising Pixie?” she asked.
“Their adoption process is completely legal, and Pixie sees them as her parents, isn’t that right?”
“I…” Suddenly, Esther felt powerless. She wanted to rescue Pixie, but she couldn’t figure out how. “What if they keep using Pixie’s organs for their own child?”
The police officer assured Esther, “I’ll keep an eye on them. You should step out of this and focus on finding your daughter.”
Esther could hear the laughter and joy coming from inside the room. Pixie seemed extremely happy, unlike when she saw Esther. The sound of two little girls playing echoed from the
room.
“Ms. Quill, look how happily their family is playing together. Why do you want to be the villain and forcibly separate them?”
Esther smiled bitterly and glanced at Anna. After a long silence, she said, “I understand. Anna, let’s go.”
The police officer handed Esther his card and said, “Ms. Quill, this is my card. If you still want to find your daughter, you can contact me. I can also help you keep an eye out. I hope you and your daughter can be reunited soon.”
“Thank you.” Esther gratefully accepted the business card.
Esther realized that there were good and bad people in the world. Not everyone she met was completely bad. There were also righteous individuals like the police officer who were working to make the world a better place.
Despite that, where was her own child? Esther felt like a small boat adrift at sea, always facing storms no matter which direction she turned.
Shortly after Esther and Anna left, the police officer took out his phone and dialed an unsaved number.
“Boss, Ms. Quill left.”
The police officer finished reporting Esther’s departure and returned to his duty. He heard laughter and joy coming from the hospital room, and he thought of his son, who was also one of the beneficiaries.
He understood Esther’s desire to find her daughter, but he and the other beneficiaries just wanted their children to live peacefully and safely.
Moreover, the adopted children were all homeless orphans. The beneficiaries had provided them with a true, warm home, hadn’t they?
