Chapter 554
Thirty minutes later, Kevin arrived at the hospital and promptly sought out a hepatologist for Esther’s examination. Despite their best efforts to expedite the procedures, it was noon before all the tests were completed.
Kevin received an urgent work call during lunch at a nearby restaurant, forcing him to leave abruptly. Esther, dining alone, ordered several dishes that Bradley favored and personally delivered them to the detention center.
She needed to see if Bradley’s hand had been severed.
Sitting in the visitor room, Esther was gripped by anxiety.
As Bradley was about to exit the detention room, a group of burly men obstructed his path. They spoke subserviently. “Boss, please hold on.”
Bradley arched an eyebrow and asked nonchalantly, “What’s the issue?”
“Boss, Mr. Pendleton instructed us to remove your arm. If you leave like this and it’s discovered we didn’t follow his orders,
we’ll be in trouble.”
Bradley glanced at his arm.
One of the men produced a roll of medical gauze and wrapped it around Bradley’s wrist. In an effort to make it appear authentic, they fashioned a makeshift device resembling a neck brace.
“Boss, try not to move too much. We’re putting on a convincing act to avoid arousing suspicion from Mr. Pendleton. We can’t afford any slip-ups.”
Bradley raised an eyebrow and proceeded into the visitor room.
When Esther heard Bradley’s footsteps, she instinctively looked up. However, seeing the medical gauze encircling his arm, she froze in place, and tears welled uncontrollably in her eyes.
Bradley noticed Esther’s distress and felt a fiery rage within him. He grasped her chin forcefully and questioned angrily, “Why are you crying? I’m not dead yet!”
“Bradley, what happened to your hand… Does it hurt?” Esther asked, her voice filled with genuine concern.
Glancing at the medical gauze on his arm, Bradley smirked and applied slight pressure, causing a faint bruise to appear on Esther’s delicate face. Her tearful eyes reflected Bradley’s unparalleled features.
“Do you want to give it a try?” Bradley asked coldly.
Esther knew that the detention center was not a place to stay. Anyone who entered there was not to be underestimated. Those who were kind would be stepped all over.
“Bradley, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault,” Esther said, looking at the once-triumphant Bradley, now imprisoned.
