Chapter 557
“What do you mean?” Esther looked at Chadwick in shock. “Considering your family status…”
“It’s true that it doesn’t have to be you,” Chadwick said arrogantly. “Plenty of women are willing to have my children, but only you are the best candidate.”
“I’m still married to Bradley.” Esther decided not to follow Chadwick’s narrative and aimed to take control of the conversation. “Given your family’s status, it wouldn’t be honorable for you to marry someone else’s wife.”
Chadwick frowned and asked ominously, “You two haven’t divorced?”
“With your resources, Mr. Pendleton, you can easily find it out.”
Chadwick made a gesture and made a call to check if Esther had divorced. Naturally, the answer was negative.
“Mr. Pendleton, the Pendletons are influential and dignified. Marrying someone else’s wife isn’t respectable. Don’t you agree?
Chadwick stared coldly at Esther, reminding her, “Then divorce Bradley right now.”
“He’s already applied for an appeal!”
Esther wanted to use Chadwick’s influence to get Bradley out of jail. Bradley’s health could not afford an extended stay in custody, especially since he needed a liver transplant urgently.
“It’s just an appeal. He can withdraw it,” Chadwick remarked. “You just focus on preparing to be my bride. I’ll take care of the
rest.”
He gleefully fantasized about having Bradley watch him and Esther consummate their marriage on their wedding night.
Esther smiled and suppressed her disgust. “For the sake of the Pendletons’ reputation, please keep our arrangement
confidential.”
“Good, very nice,” Chadwick said with a sly smile. “You already have the awareness of a Mrs. Pendleton. I applaud you.”
“Thank you for the compliment,” Esther replied with a smile that did not reach her eyes.
Chadwick wanted to threaten her into marrying him. She had agreed just to cut off any future trouble.
After parting ways with Chadwick, Esther did not return to the hospital. Instead, she met with Oliver.
“Uncle Oliver.”
Oliver asked, “Esther, you should be resting in the hospital and can just call if you have anything to discuss.”
“Chadwick threatened me again today to marry him, and 1 agreed!”
As Esther spoke, Oliver did not interrupt but listened carefully.
“Uncle Oliver, we must destroy the Pendletons completely!”
