Chapter 558
The power dynamics in Capitus were complex and tangled. The Pendletons had a long-standing presence, and their influence ran deep. We need solid evidence to bring down the Pendletons in one swift move.
“Uncle Oliver, I’ll seriously consider it.”
Oliver nodded and comforted Esther, saying, “I understand your feelings, Esther, but we shouldn’t rush. Let’s aim for steady
and continuous progress.”
“Alright,” Esther agreed.
With affection in his eyes, Oliver spoke gently, “Esther, don’t dwell too much on this. Focus on your recovery; there’s a long journey ahead.”
“I understand,” Esther replied.
After a day of running around, Esther returned to her hospital room, utterly drained.
Agatha’s scolding echoed in her ears as she saw Esther’s exhaustion. “Esther, don’t you care about your health at all? Your first childbirth recovery wasn’t good, and now you’re pushing yourself again. Are you trying to shorten your life?”
Esther approached Agatha, embracing her as if she were her own grandmother. “Grandma Foster, I know I made a mistake. Please don’t get angry and compromise your health for me.”
Agatha sighed and patted her lightly on the back, voicing both concern and helplessness. “It’s late now. Freshen up and rest. We can talk tomorrow.”
“I’m so thankful for you.”
Agatha gave her a sideways glance and spoke seriously. “Esther, your body is your only home. Don’t assume youth will protect you; take care of it, alright?”
“Yes, Grandma Foster. I’ll heed your advice.”
After Agatha left, Esther freshened up and settled in for some rest. But the ward’s door knocked again, and this time, it was
Kevin who entered.
“Kevin, have we received the compatibility results?” Esther asked eagerly.
Kevin shook his head. “Esther, your liver isn’t a match for Bradley.”
Esther’s heart sank, her voice filled with pain. “So, I can’t donate my liver to save him?”
“That’s right,” Kevin said, passing the document to Esther. He tried to console her, “Esther, since your liver isn’t suitable, just focus on recovering. I’ll continue to search for a suitable liver for Bradley.”
“Kevin, thank you so much!”
After seeing Kevin off, Esther returned to her hospital ward and resumed reading the document he had brought. She’d always had a feeling that her liver might be a suitable match for Bradley. So, it came as a shock that it wasn’t.
Tears welled up, and she covered her face with her hands. What if Bradley couldn’t find a suitable liver? What would happen to him? How could she possibly save him?
