Chapter 566
“Chadwick, Felix is where I draw the line.”
Chadwick glanced at Esther, saying sinisterly, “Esther, I don’t make a habit of playing the dad role for others.”
“Chadwick! Pendleton!”
She would have never accepted Chadwick’s absurd proposal if he had not threatened her with Bradley.
“Esther, let’s have a serious talk then.”
Chadwick guided Esther into a room. He perched casually on a desk and grinned at her. “Self-awareness trumps all, Esther. Know your position.”
Esther chuckled coldly. “Chadwick, I may be your pawn, but I have my limits! Felix is non-negotiable. I fought hard for those custody rights, and I’m not giving them up.”
“Is there no room for discussion?” Chadwick straightened up, eyes narrowing dangerously at Esther.” Should I send Mr. Warner back to prison? I wonder how much longer he can last there?”
“You…” Esther was at a loss for words. She knew Chadwick was threatening her using Bradley. She had absolutely no options. Bradley’s health would not hold up in prison much longer.
Given Chadwick’s cunning nature, he knew exactly when to hand out punishment and when to dangle a
carrot.
“Mandy will soon become Bradley’s wife, making her your son’s new stepmother. Are you worried she might mistreat your son? Besides, if you become my wife, my family won’t be keen on welcoming someone not of their blood. Be a good girl and comply obediently. Who knows? You might have a dozen kids.”
Esther’s fists clenched, her heart aching as if struck by a thousand arrows. She felt cornered, suffocated, trapped in a dead end.
Her goal was clear-make Chadwick and his backers, the Pendleton family, vanish from her life.
“Do think it through.” Chadwick’s voice took on a softer edge.
A surge of killing intent surged inside Esther. She lowered her eyes to hold back her disgust and murderous urges.
Calmly, she asked, “I first need assurance that Mandy will indeed donate her liver to Bradley.”
She had to ensure Bradley was alive with her own eyes. As long as Bradley was safe and healthy, she would give up everything for him.
“The instant you divorce Bradley, I’ll make sure Mandy will donate her liver,” Chadwick said teasingly. She’ll have to if she doesn’t want to become a widow, won’t she?”
Bradley, Mandy, and Kevin each occupied a long bench.
Kevin looked at Bradley and whispered, “Brad, you’ve misunderstood Esther.”
