Chapter 596
“Get out!” Bradley barked.
Kevin thought, ‘Well, Bradley does have cancer.’
He decided not to take offense and remained calm.
“Treat Esther well. Don’t lead her to her grave,” Kevin advised casually before leaving.
Perhaps it was a hidden tenderness within Bradley, flowing like a gentle stream and moistening his otherwise dry heart. He sat beside his hospital bed, gazing at the unconscious Esther. Memories of their time together at Primus Mansion drifted through his mind.
Esther had pretended to have amnesia back then, yet she was irresistibly charming. She warmed his heart in ways he couldn’t fully understand.
Without hesitation, Bradley reached for Esther’s soft hand, slightly chilled from the IV fluids. Almost instinctively, he held it tightly.
Stirring in her dazed state, Esther seemed unsettled. Bradley gently smoothed her knitted eyebrows.
Soft words escaped her lips, “Brad, Brad,” filled with genuine emotion.
“I’m here,” Bradley whispered.
As if hearing him, Esther sank into a deep slumber.
Some time later, Esther woke up, soaked in sweat, her clothes sticking to her body. Silently, she tiptoed into the bathroom.
Kevin entered the room, finding Bradley still in bed. The rumpled sheets revealed where Esther had been.
Kevin wondered, ‘Maybe Bradley and Esther will reconcile, after all.”
“Kevin,” Esther whispered and signaled with her eyes.
They stepped onto the balcony.
“What’s going on?” Kevin asked.
“I have the 10:00 am. meeting with Jasper. Can you keep Bradley occupied?” Esther requested.
Kevin sighed. “Esther, Bradley cares about you, and…”
“Kevin, my relationship with Jasper isn’t what you think,” Esther said softly, taking a deep breath. “And I’m going to see Mandy.”
Kevin looked at Bradley, pondered momentarily, and finally whispered, “Esther, go now! I’ll take care of this.”
“Thank you,” Esther acknowledged before slipping past Bradley.
Left with no choice, Kevin stayed with Bradley. He briefly considered sedating him but held back due to his professional ethics.
As Esther left the hospital, she spotted Jasper’s car. “Hop in, Esther,” Jasper called out.
Esther hesitated before getting in.
“Did Bradley force you to block me?” Jasper asked.
“Hmm,” Esther confirmed awkwardly.
