Esther comprehended Xara's words and hesitated before replying, "I can't risk it."
She lacked the courage to gamble and place her trust in Bradley's methods. She held firm to her belief that Bradley was a man capable of anything.
"Why won't you dare?" Xara scoffed, her confidence unwavering. "Esther, your circumstances are different from mine back then. My situation spiraled because I had no support, but you're not alone. You have the Quills and Dr. Foster. No matter how unhinged Bradley is, he can't escape the law entirely. You've got people who care about you, who love you.
"Don't you want to live your life the right way? Most importantly, if you keep letting Bradley threaten you, Felix's mental state will deteriorate. He's just a child. He shouldn't endure all of this."
Esther asked, "But what if Bradley actually harms my daughters?"
"Esther, if Bradley is willing to harm his own daughters, do you think there's any decency left in a man like him? You need to find your own strength. Enough not to fear Bradley and keep him in check, preventing him from doing as he pleases."
Xara comforted Esther with a pat on her shoulder and said, "Reflect on it."
After Xara departed, Esther was plagued by self-doubt.
Were her daughters truly in Bradley's hands? Could it be that Bradley was deceiving her? But why would he manipulate her by using their daughters? After all, they were his own flesh and blood. What was his motive?
A series of questions swirled in Esther's mind, rendering her trapped in a labyrinth, a maze of uncertainty with no apparent escape.
