Chapter 0102
Frank Levett was a man who had studied law. He started his career as a corporate attorney, which allowed him to infiltrate the ranks of several companies.
One of these was Preston & Partners Group, led at the time by Lucius Palmer, who had taken his wife’s
surname.
Over time, Frank became the right–hand man of the current president. Lucius began consulting him on all major decisions, until one day, he deemed it more practical to sign over power of attorney, granting Frank control of the company.
With that authority, Frank Levett had free rein to do he pleased. When the opportunity arose, he orchestrated a scheme that pushed the Preston and Bartz families out of the group. Peter Bartz had transferred his shares to Catherine under an exclusive clause after witnessing his son’s poor management of their family business.
As for the Preston family, they returned to Hesperia, leaving the handling of their shares to Catherine. Frank took advantage of this, offering them compensation for managing their shares–a paltry sum compared to their true value and their status as the original founders of the family business. This maneuver ensured the Palmers became the sole owners.
That year, the company’s growth was already projected to skyrocket, but the other families were excluded from sharing in the profits. This enraged Catherine’s parents, who were the second generation of the company’s founders. However, by the time they realized what had happened, there was nothing they could do.
It was then that the Palmers discovered that Catherine’s husband, Lucius, had given Frank free rein to do whatever he wanted. Catherine tried to take control but Lucius blocked her. At the time, Catherine had her hands full raising young Leonard and couldn’t split her attention between her son and the business. Forced into a helpless position, she could only watch as her husband fractured the group. After that, their relationship was never the same.
Frank used this opportunity to make several moves that brought him substantial personal profits.
The Palmers eventually noticed Frank’s growing wealth. By the time they attempted to intervene, the company was on the brink of bankruptcy. The Preston family, seeing the dire situation, proposed selling their shares, knowing full well that what they had received in compensation was a pittance compared to their true value.
Catherine tried to file a complaint against Frank, but since Lucius had signed over power of attorney, the claim was dismissed. The only option was to terminate Frank’s contract, which required paying him a hefty severance package.
After Frank Levett left the company, his mismanagement came to light. Lucius was removed as president, and it was revealed that he had a mistress–Electra Levett. While Frank was driving the company into ruin, Electra was carrying on an affair with Lucius. Things escalated to the point where Lucius asked Catherine for a divorce, but her parents refused. Lucius eventually fled with Electra and never set foot in the Palmer household again.
The separation was tumultuous. Lucius demanded a significant portion of what he saw as the company’s growth under his leadership, Catherine was forced to give him a large sum of money but refused to hand
