The next morning, Alexia left the house, using the excuse of meeting a friend for breakfast. Canceling her meeting wasn’t an option. 

Maximus stayed in bed longer than usual–a rare luxury after years of waking up early. 

Meanwhile, Leonard searched the mansion for his son but couldn’t find him. 

“Emma, have you seen Maximus?” 

“He left last night and hasn’t come back.” 

“Emma, tell me something–what was my son’s relationship with Mary like?” 

“Sir, I don’t think it was ever good. She married very young, and the master took advantage of that.”

“Well, Marcus Bartz has appeared, and Mary Preston is here. Catherine split the company with them as majority shareholders–Bartz holds 34%, and Preston has 33%. The remaining 33% belongs to the Palmers, leaving Maximus with only 11%. It’s nothing compared to how much he’s worked. It’s a crime,” Alexia said angrily. 

“That’s not possible! Catherine can’t do that!” Frank slammed his hand on the table, furious. 

“Well, she already did!” Alexia shot back, equally upset. 

“Who is this Mary Preston? The Preston family is on the run because of the embezzlement by James Anderson!” Frank declared confidently.
