My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus) novel Chapter 1039

After that long conversation between Laura and Magnus, the latter went to Maximus’s study, found a number, and made a call.

"Joseph George..." Magnus said into the phone.

"Magnus? What a surprise! This is amazing. A call?" said a raspy voice on the other end of the line.

"I wish I could say the same, but no… I have an unresolved issue I’d like to discuss with you," Magnus said in an extremely serious tone.

"Tell me, Magnus. I’m all ears," the voice responded, sounding a bit nervous.

"Meet me in 30 minutes at the usual spot."

"Alright, see you there."

After talking to her grandfather, Laura felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She had never brought up the bullying she suffered at school.

She had mentioned small fragments of it before, but for some strange reason, she opened up to Magnus, and the man simply listened, making her feel understood.

Laura went into the bathroom and slipped into the bathtub. Taking advantage of the fact that Adele wasn’t home, she spent at least an hour there until the water turned cold.

Meanwhile, several things were happening. Emergency services arrived at the Brown & George residence, picked up young Adrian, and rushed him to the hospital.

Fortunately, after several tests and at least eight stitches to his head, the man was not in any real danger. It had been a nasty hit, and he needed to rest and avoid exertion. The situation left him deep in thought.

Even though he had married out of obligation, he had genuinely tried. At first, Alice was madly in love with him. However, the moment she found out he had once dated Laura Palmer, everything changed.

Throughout their year of marriage, these kinds of incidents had become routine. He laughed at himself because, when he was younger, he would have never allowed a woman to lay a hand on him. But in this case, things were different.

Alice had the full support of the Brown family, who had poured large amounts of money into preventing their business from collapsing due to poor management.

Adrian owed a lot to his family—and not just them, but also the Georges. So, he had no choice but to endure his wife’s constant tantrums and humiliations.

At some point, he regretted what had happened with Laura. Though he had searched for her, he never found her. Throughout her pregnancy, he never lost hope of seeing her again, apologizing, and finding a way to be worthy of her.

Time passed, he got married, and the rest was history—a history that changed the moment he first laid eyes on Adele.

"Magnus Evans... What brings you here?" asked an older man, looking a little uneasy.

"It’s very simple," Magnus said bluntly.

"Really?" the man asked, clearly unsure. "Why don’t I believe you?"

"It’s about your granddaughter and mine," Magnus said seriously.
